I know that nothing will ever top Ball State's race to the bottom of whatever poll we were tracking a couple years ago, but let's give this a shot anyway. www.espn.com/nba/attendanceThe Indiana Pacers currently are dead last in average attendance in the NBA. The Detroit Pistons are averaging TWO MORE FANS per game than our beloved home town team. Can Blue and Gold keep it up for an entire year? I can't wait to be watching attendance figures with baited breath come February and March!

Until Herb Simon sells the team, I have no interest.
They can move for all I care. Simon is a cheapskate, and depends on the city to keep the team afloat through his mismanagement. And the way they treat the media is abysmal.
Did you know they charge the media to eat in the media room? As far as I know, they're the only ones that do that. THAT'S how cheap Simon is. Hell, the local freelance TV folks unionized just because the pay was so bad. Each team receives a set amount of dollars for TV crew, but the Pacers skimmed off the top and paid less, so they could pocket the rest.

I don't know, I've never understood why he media assumes they should get comped all the time.

I don't know, I've never understood why he media assumes they should get comped all the time. Because you're on the road a lot and don't always have time to get a meal. If you've ever worked in media, you'd get it. Every other pro team feeds the media to get a little "goodwill" from the writers/reporters/crew. It's not a huge deal, but it's just another example of Simon pinching pennies. The pay skimming is what really pissed people off, though. And with all the money being spent on the fieldhouse, they're not updating their studios (which desperately need it.) I'm not sure WHAT they're spending all the money on.

You need to understand that you may be judging Rick Carlisle's Pacers by the wrong standard. Things line wins, losses and attendance are not as relevant as some other things.
Rick Carlisle explained this in his capacity as President of the NBA Coaches Union when the Atlanta Hawks fired coach Lloyd Pierce, who had an overall record of 63-120 with that team in 2 1/2 seasons:
Calling the firing “insane” and questioning its timing, Carlisle touched on Pierce’s work not only as a coach but as a leader of the NBA’s racial justice work. “He was the chairperson in Coaches for Racial Justice. He was the guy that was the first guy in the entire NBA to facilitate his local arena as a voting center in Georgia. That triggered a chain of events that led to 22 NBA arenas being certified as voting centers. As we’re all well aware, the state of Georgia, in very large part because of Lloyd’s work and his commitment, went from being a traditionally Republican state to a Democratic state—not only in the electoral college vote in the presidential election, but also in the runoff elections in January, which has massively changed the landscape of our country.”
Carlisle's success with the Pacers will be more clearly judged after the next election cycle.

Perhaps it's not just the play of the Pacers that is keeping fans away. Perhaps folks are just sick of the social messaging, the barrage of unnecessary nanny whining that the current NBA culture and players are selling.
Just play basketball. Protest on your offseason.

Leave it to you chucklefucks to turn a joyous thread about the abysmal attendance and turn it into politics and feeding the media and losses!
Can't we all just enjoy this season for what it is? A chance to hang a banner that says "Worst average attendance - 2021-2022"??

I know a lot of season ticketholders who said "Fuck it. I'm done with this carnival." and didn't renew tix. They were loyal fans through good and bad seasons. It's now because the NBA decided to get political. It's a cancer to a once good brand.

Overall there are a lot of negatives, including hesitation about Covid.
The politics you would think would have hurt the NFL more if it were mostly that.

The NBA is more concerned about sucking China's dick than it is about appealing to the average American fan.

Muncie BMH is on verge of closing down elective procedures, and Indiana has potential for a surge. Still not resulting in big surge in deaths but still almost all Delta cases. Virus isn't done with us.

After filling the Fieldhouse to 95% capacity for Steph Curry's trip to Indy, the Pacers have slid up to 29th in attendance. They currently stand 247 cold dead bodies ahead of Detroit.

I used to love to go to Indy to watch the Pacers. You can get amazing deals on tickets on black Friday an we'd get tickets for two or three games every year. While I still love the Pacers frankly I can't stomach the politics of the NBA. I watch the Pacers on TV from time to time. The rest of the NBA is dead to me. I could care less. I won't even watch the Pacers if LeBron James is the opponent. Add in the pandemic and that multiple people are being shot in Indy every freaking day and we just don't do that anymore.
