Conferences receiving automatic qualification included the Big West Conference, Conference Carolinas, Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The remaining two teams are selected at-large without geographical restrictions.

Better win that tournament. A chance for an at large if we are second place there, but up against some very good West Coast powers for that.

Has the MIVA ever had two for the NCAA? This might be the year because of BSU and Loyola being so strong.

Has the MIVA ever had two for the NCAA? This might be the year because of BSU and Loyola being so strong. Problem is we are now $7 and Loyola is #11. One of us will lose in the next head to head match. Then there is the MIVA tourney. One or both will lose there.

BSU RPI is #3 this week behind Long Beach State and Penn State! If they ignore politics, and if RPI is the measure they use, and if a loss in the tourney doesn't move us down below 5 or 6, that is promising.

4 of national top 10 RPI are MIVA schools this week Which also means losing in the tourney leaves a lot of MIVA competition for any hypothetical at large.
But it also means 3 MIVA schools still drop in RPI potentially with even 1 loss. The only way to lose and still gain in RPI is to get a good win and get to the championship, lose only to the best of the rest.
And the coaches poll reflects more the thinking any selection committee will have...#7 is not going to be secure with a loss.
Even 6, much less 6-10 face an uphill battle to get in. Only 8(?) get in and 6(?) automatic qualifiers. AT LEAST one West coast power will be at large. Seeding is very important. Winning out is important to us. We do that and we might go into the tournament at #6.

Great to have new BSU men’s basketball coach Michael Lewis cheering on the Cardinals last night in Worthen Arena. BSU looked awesome sweeping an excellent McKendree Bearcat team setting the stage for the annual showdown with the 12th ranked Lewis Flyers Saturday at 5:00. Lewis defeated Ohio State 3-1 last night in Columbus. It will be senior night and BSU will salute 6 outstanding seniors that have helped BSU to a league leading 10-1 record and the best record in America at 18-2!

Tonight’s senior day match with Lewis is always one of the most intense and exciting matches of the season. The Flyers bench is always obnoxious and try to get into the heads of their opponents. Let’s have a huge BSU crowd to drown out their noise and thank our Cardinals for a great season! 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the MIVA with a #3 RPI! Best in school history!
