Looks like about 50 fans here 10 minutes before practice, with a more straggling in.

Lots of work on basic D. Pressure on ball, everybody moves with ball, challenge passing lanes, recover when ball reversed, hands up, physical defense, help and recover.
In offense drills ball kept moving, attacking rim, multiple ball handlers, fast pace. Extra pass until somebody can get to rim or wide open.

No scrimmage. Not showing much. Drills often had players doing catch and shoot.
No real surprises.
Sparks was strong, moved well, not much work on post up. Emphasis on going to the basket and physical defense, verticality on defense to players attacking rim.
Guard play looked good. Owens White was quick, made an impression.
Coleman was given some pushups after a show time pass...

Maybe 100+ fans, some players parents. Good drills, fast paced practice.

I thought I was going to be out of town for this but wasn't so I did attend. Would echo a lot of what 00 said. Haven't seen college basketball practice in years and certainly didn't ever see a Whitford practice so wasn't totally sure what to expect or how this compared.
It was not really a show for the fans. An announcer introduced the team by numbers while they were doing shooting drills at the start of practice and Lewis made some brief comments, basically to the effect of "we're just going to practice." I think he did mention this was their 14th practice.
Agree that Owens White made an impression, and I think Bell has a lot of potential but he's clearly young and struggles in some areas.
When they broke up for different drills for post players, only Sparks, Hendriks and Jihad were involved. I thought Pearson might be but apparently not. Hendriks did not look terrible to me. He didn't look great, but he might be able to help.
Windham was clearly the most consistent outside shooter in this practice. Be interested to see what he does this year.
I watched Bum hit maybe 13 out of 14 15-footers from the left wing during drills but he was pretty much his normal sporadic self when guarded.
Boogie was Boogie. A couple of great plays followed by a couple of bone-headed ones.
Sparks is the man and during one drill when they were taking the ball to the basket, Lewis had to admonish one defender when facing Spark, something like "Don't get out of his way." I think a couple of people might just get out of his way this year.
When they first broke into 5-on-5 drills, Lewis had Sparks, Windham, Coleman, Jacobs and Bum together. Don't know that that means anything and it changed as they played, but that's where it started today.
Lewis made several references during defensive drills to knocking people on their butts in certain situations, and Sparks basically followed the coach's instructions by grabbing Jihad around the waist and dragging him out of he paint at one point.
As Lewis stated early, not much interaction with fans except at the start and then the end. Lewis did turn to the crowd at one point and said "You can applaud for that. That was good offense."

Haven't seen college basketball practice in years and certainly didn't ever see a Whitford practice so wasn't totally sure what to expect or how this compared. Drills seemed typical of college practice. Pace was faster than Whitford practice and defensive emphasis on pressure on the ball and movement of the defense included being more ball oriented. Worked on defending the P&R a little different. Agree the defense was more physical. Not a typical practice in that there was no real work on offensive system no work on post play. If drills any indication we will push the ball and go to the rim more than we have seen, and we will be prepared for having everybody share ball handling. In the drills did not see any emphasis to use break to shoot threes, pushed the ball to the basket. Did shoot threes in half court when plenty of space created. Our defense was always coming at the shooter in that case. Mills mentions a possible starting 5, but as he said it is correct that players seemed interchangeable. Fair to say that Hendricks did not seem terrible I thought Coleman was generally under control with one notable flight of fancy. Players are quicker overall than recent teams and practice emphasized using that quickness to create defensive pressure.

I don't recall whether Sellers was left or right handed, but he looked pretty good just doing some dribbling, catching and shooting with one hand. If his left isn't his dominant hand, that was pretty impressive.

OK, not so impressive then. But it would be a surprise if Sellers did not play starters minutes.
We have only a small sample size to judge much with a public practice, but given the lack of size, anybody 6-4 will play some at forward. Whatever their offensive role, match up with a SF on defense. The emphasis at the practice was consistent with small lineups hustling to apply some pressure and playing at a fast pace.
With 10 players listed as guards, it isn't any revelation if we see 3 or 4 players listed as guards playing together most of the time.
Even if Hendricks can play some, and even if Jihad plays well (I didn't see him do much at this practice) we appear to be headed for small ball. Can those two play enough minutes to have two bigs on the floor most of the time? My guess is less than half the time. Even then it would be 3 guards.
So, that means Coleman, 200 pounds at 6-5, and Pearson (he didn't show much here either) will at times have to guard bigger players in all likelihood.
Others are not as physical. Cleary, Windham are 6-5, but slight. They can match up at SF on defense, even if against some will have to make up for lack of size with pressure and aggressive D.
We have some solid small guards but I really hope we don't have to play 2 at the same time very much. Owens-White did get to the basket well and he should really help against speedy opposing guards. Jacobs is solid. Bum is tough enough, but can't play the minutes he did last year, it wore him down. And as everyone says he just has to hit those open shots.

I attended the practice taking a Purdue friend. I was embarrassed with the attendance. Zero students. Maybe 150 fans. I guess that I overestimated the IU attendees too. Very disappointed that our students and fans show this support to a new coach and many new players. I thought that there would be a couple thousand in attendance. Very poor support!

We get a couple thousand for games these days.

Dude, it was a practice. Meanwhile, I found out what "leafing" is. I wouldn't say the day was wasted, but it was pretty drunk.
