Went pretty much as expected. My guess is that the game plan was to go to the rim. My guess is the game plan will ALWAYS be to go to the rim. It just won't be as easy as it was tonight and, at some point, we are going to have to hit some outside shots to win games.

Not sure how anyone can say it went as expected or we can’t learn anything - it was the largest margin of victory in program history. In a new Coach’s first game.
I’d say that’s not ever expected. This is the same team that lost to Michigan Tech last season.
We might not be conference champions this season - but we will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than last year and I suspect this team will finish ranked higher than ANY Whitford team, barring an injury to Sparks.
We still have holes - Desperately need a good shooting 2 guard before we can really start thinking big. Bumbalough isn’t going to be enough. Hate to say it but Luke Brown might actually be missed.
But let’s celebrate this! I haven’t been this excited for basketball in like 2 decades.

Until we get Sellers back, we don't fully know what we have. Will we get Owens-White at some point, who will add quickness at the PG spot? I think once all the pieces are in play Bumb will be coming off the bench.

But this game didn't really give us much either way on it. Getting to the basket, drawing fouls, scoring off defense all take advantage of our athleticism. No reason last night to go away from where we were hitting 60%. Earlham played out on us and we could get by them. When bigger more athletic teams make that harder we'll see more outside shots. We'll hit a higher %. Bumb, Windham and Cleary were 1 for 10. They'll do significantly better. Sellers can shoot. Coleman, Jacobs didn't take many outside shots.

I think once all the pieces are in play Bumb will be coming off the bench. He did have 4 assists, 0 TO. And will hit outside better. I'd guess he gets 15-18 minutes a game.

You know what I saw last night?
Speed. Players were hustling up and down the court. None of this standing around bullshit. Getting to the rim. Diving after loose balls. Intensity. Fun.
Sure, it was against a hugely outclassed opponent, but the difference was very noticeable.
Jacobs is really good, 6 ast/1 to. Windham was everywhere. Coleman looked great until he hurt his ankle. Sparks owned the paint. And Bumb couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. He was really off.
Off the bench, Jihad declared a holy war against the Quakers. Pearson was surprisingly good. And I wouldn't be surprised if Cleary takes Bumb's starting spot, if they both play like last night. Even Hendriks had a good highlight dunk.
Indiana State will be a much better gauge of how good this team really is.

Please. This is not Nickel Beer night at Cleveland Stadium in the '70s. Reel it in. You are right. Still we may need to factor in that Calhoun was not around in the 70's in Cleveland and the Stadium was not 5 minutes from college dorms with free admission. College kids rarely pay $7 for a beer, even with "free" admission.

You are right Lurkin. We were aggressive to get down court and go for the basket before the defense got set.
I liked seeing multiple players able to handle the ball and not waiting on the P&R on every play, we're moving more and not just counting on spacing to get open shots.
Even when we play half court and have 4 or 5 players outside we move. Not only do we have a post threat in Sparks, but we are asking players to go to the basket and use that space open in the lane. Both should get us some open looks outside if the opponent packs into the lane or helps. Much more likely to get offensive rebounds with everyone moving.

I believe if Bum loses his starting role it will be to Sellers!! You always love it if starting isn't such a big deal and you have multiple players who can expect to get substantial minutes without much or any drop off. We have a lot of good guards it appears.

To those that attended, just curious if Windham looked as good to the eye as his box score. Realize hard to gauge much given it was against Earlham: - 24 min - 10 points (4-7 FG) - 6 rebs - 5 assists - 4 steals - 1 block - 0 turnovers Nice stat-stuffer! He really seems to have taken advantage of the coaching change!

He's apparently a different player
Unlike limited time last year, he hustled on defense, he also was handling the ball looking for others and going to the basket not just jacking 3s.
A lot of the difference is the system but a lot of that is buy in to play the way the coach wants and effort.

I graduated from BSU in 1996, as I was a student from 1992-1996 during what was arguably the era of the sweet spot of BSU basketball. Live in Indy, and after last nights game I plan on attending as many home games as possible this year. This team is hungry for success and as a previous poster said, if Whitford was still coaching we would have won but maybe only by 20 instead of 70 as the drive and motivation would not be what Lewis is instilling on his team.
Go Cards!

He got scolded again for taking an I’ll advised three but responded well. I think enough time has passed that this is shareable if not sorry. Windham lost his time after the arrival Of Brown. It was his minutes and spot brown took without practice or even being part of the team. Windham was pissed lost it in practice and told whit to fuck himself. Instant doghouse
