I’m not sure what to say here this might be your most optimistic post in 10 years
Certainly, any sane person would put money on Kent or Toledo over us for a MAC championship at this point. But does either of these have three players like Sparks/Sellers/Coleman? Carry is sincerely a very good player, but beyond that I think Thomas may be Kent's third best player, which is not an impressive thing.
The thing about BSU is that we are so heavily reliant on Coleman's quality of play in any given game due to his high usage rate...Getting the most out of Coleman will be Lewis's most important and probably trickiest coaching challenge this year.
So when I say this roster can be a championship contender, it's more likely to be in the team-nobody-wants-to-play sense, rather than the solid favorite sense...all depending on how Coleman is playing at tourney time.
Again I agree completely. Except maybe I value Kent's proven and more consistent quality a little more when comparing their top 3 or top 5. That's where the Coleman factor comes in. Granted Thomas being consistent may be along the same lines as Coleman avoiding bonehead plays. The two would likely be a match up in a critical game.
Top 3 or 5 top comparison is very different when Coleman is playing with more control. Both he and Sparks can be real stars. Sellers is so versatile, and because he is much less flashy, he can get lost. Jacobs is sneaky good. Windham for offense and maybe Pearson as a glue guy who can defend, and can't be ignored on offense give us a good starting 5. Kent has more off the bench, especially up front, and that size and athleticism is what kept them with Houston. We could not do that.
So. All your points are good! If you keep up this optimism we're going to look like a regular fan forum.
