Lewis on radio said Simmons good coach at making games ugly. Indeed he seems to have built his team and his program with that goal in mind. Made us look as ugly 1st 10 minutes.

I liked the effort, particularly on D. This needs to become the foundation. Will keep us in a lot of games.

My favorite thing about Lewis vs Whit right now is after the Duquesne loss Lewis said he had a burn in his stomach that we lost and if any players dont have that same burn they are in the wrong program. Whit would have treated that 1 point buzzer beater loss as basically a win.

Win total not as important as the losses. Maybe no such thing as good loss. Still. Pretty good teams, two losses on the road. No game where we did not compete. Coach and players not satisfied with losses and learning something from errors.

BSU defense looks much improved from a year ago. EIU really struggled getting open 3 point shots. BSU playing very unselfish and passing the ball to open teammates. A year ago we had a player who thankfully transferred to Toledo that thought the ball was supposed to be in his hands all the time and missed passing to open teammates all season long.

Lewis only uses 8 players and I struggle to understand how he views Bumb’s role when he is on the floor. He’s not shooting and he’s not dishing out assists. I assume “not making turnovers” can be seen as contributing He's not a consistently good perimeter shooter, but I think good enough that opponents need to guard him out there, so he has some spread-the-floor value. Thinking about it, not only is he not turning it over, but he gets the ball and quickly does something with it. Big change from last year, improves ball movement. We did not use the pass nearly as much, too much dribble and ball screen, one trick, and not the players who were all that good at it. When EIU used help on post or on our drives we showed we could use passing to get to the open man outside or the cutter left open.

For the record, I'd like to say I made note of the 8 assists to 2 TO night of Coleman

Radio color man was very pleased with Bum's play last evening. Very complimentary in his comments.

Coach and players not satisfied with losses and learning something from errors. Actually, I’m feeling better about the current 5-4 record than I did about Whitford’s 7-2 record a couple of years ago. Three of the four losses were close games and it felt like we were in it the entire game and might win but didn’t. For some reason, and I think I know why, I felt better about the team after losses than Whitford's wins.

For the record, I'd like to say I made note of the 8 assists to 2 TO night of Coleman I think I noted two instances of our guys passing up on open threes to get the ball inside for a layup. Never would have happened under Whitford.

No time for those optimistic passes which can be booted out bounds and only result in 2 points when the tactic works...

Eastern Illinois beat Iowa today. Iowa (8-4) was a 30-point favorite over the Panthers (4-9), who came in with only one win over an NCAA Division I opponent this season. But Eastern Illinois rallied from a 45-37 halftime deficit, shooting 72.4 percent from the field in the second half while holding the Hawkeyes to just 30.6 percent shooting. First time that a 30+ underdog has covered.
