We do have three really good guards, any of whom could be first team all-MAC. Sparks had A bad game, that happens - he is a horse and the MAC will have lots of problems with him. jihad played a very good game, nice to see him step up like he did in this game. I think Jihad will be a strong contributor as the season moves forward. This was one of those games that was a real test for the coach and player - they passed the test with flying colors! Defense wins games and in the closing minutes it won the game for us.

It was hard to match the defensive intensity of GS. They are tough. But I thought we played pretty well on D. Senior laden team that plays well in their system. We are not to that maturity level yet, but a very bright spot to fight through it and get the win. We played hard tonight. Great coaching job keeping the players engaged.

We passed after coming out of the half with some benefit from coaching.
Pearson has been a reliable defender, hit open shots, got some sneaky baskets inside, can even handle well enough on the break.
If these two play as they have in their best games, we are good up front. Of course that consistency is not proven.
Windham has regressed. He is a potential X factor who could make a difference if a starting guard is out of action. We really need a back court player off the bench.
I liked that Bumb actually took 2 open shots, his losing his shooting touch remains a mystery. Owens White played briefly, hope he gets some minutes in the next game to get up to full game speed at this level.

Georgia Southern plays really good D. I think it’s a different ball game and maybe one Ball State wins going away had they not started 4-18 from the field. Georgia Southern was willing to give Ball State some looks and the Cards just couldn’t knock them down.

Georgia Southern was willing to give Ball State some looks and the Cards just couldn’t knock them down. Coleman just wasn't hitting and yet knows he needs to take open shots. Lewis wasn't on anyone except Windham for shot selection, timing. Both the two essential to beat teams that can clog up the lane. We didn't always attack the zone well...

Kent State in my view has played well enough thus far for an at large but it’s been many seasons since the MAC has garnered two bids!! I have bet college hoops for far too long. Kent's power rating is strong enough to be an at large. Unfortunately, as many realized the game is rigged for the power players. Kent could sweep the MAC, which they will not and still not get in if theylose in the conference tournament. It is why you see schools dissing tradition and moving conferences like a turnstile. When they paid a Billion dollars for the March Madness tv rights, big money entered the fray. That was the end of fairness. The draw is typically unfair. The rule changes ALWAYS favor the more athletic teams. It is the world we live in today.

I've been concerned all year about help for Sparks. What if he has a bad game, is injured, or is in foul trouble? Who replaces him at the post? Hendricks? No way. Jihad doesn't have the bulk of Sparks, but is coming on. GSU was tough, long, and physical. In games like this, I liked what I saw with both Sparks and Jihad on the floor at the same time and can see more of this.

He’s been outperforming this year, but if he and Sparks are both off on the same night we’re in trouble.

Pearson is going to have great variance because his role changes depending on what others are doing.
Active. Solid D is the only constant for him. That's been big.
We've seen him score inside, play outside to create space in lane, actually score outside when left open, run the court...
If he did all that at high level he'd be Lebron. But he's not all that great at any of it, just showing he's usually good enough when needed. Whatever it is.

I think we would end up having to go five out and try to get buckets off of cuts.

Sellers would be the cutting edge in "buckets off I dont'of cuts". I don't know maybe Hendricks could distribute the ball to those cutting to the basket or out for three point shots. If Sparks and Jihad were both out our overall defense would really have to pick up particularly our on ball defense to disrupt any passes into the middle for a 6-10 player.
