I think the net ratings work different than all other rankings. You cant really move upwards much with out Net wins and playing highly ranked Net teams. Kent scheduled a tougher schedule that included net teams. You are correct, and they will come back down closer to the MAC levels as the season goes on.
The rating system based on point differential, home court, and opponents power rating is probably more accurate, but they are substantially ahead of the MAC in those systems too, could be favored in every game, home and away.
They will lose, maybe 2 or 3 games in the MAC, but are odds on to have best MAC record when you look at simulations.
For those of you who do not know NET ranking is now the goto formula for tge NCAA tournament selection committee. This almost makes it impossible for non power leagues to get two in. Unless like Kent you thought you were going to be good and scheduled for it

It has a bit of old RPI logic, but is improved.
At the end of the season most systems peg the top teams, but none can capture the late season hot teams really well.
Conference tournies are supposed to, but seeding gives the regular season winners advantage.
For one bid conferences it can really screw a team that plays one bad game or suffers an injury.
NIT bids are maybe consolation prizes, but still dependent on that scheduling factor you mentioned.

Why wouldnt we do a 2 for 1 with them? Why would we? We’re close enough their fans can come here. I cant help envisioning a meeting where Butler says they wont play in Muncie and Lewis starts walking around the room clucking like a chicken until they cave.

The Sycamores are on a 4 game win streak. Currently 17-9 overall and 10-5 in The Valley, tied with Belmont for 4th (1/2 game out of a tie for first).
Could begin to gel in time for the tourney.
