This is a statement game IMO. You know u r a much better team. Go out and dominate. That's the mindset I'm sure he has. Can that translate to the players or do they feel they can throw their shoes on the court and it's over.

Our perimeter defense has to show up in this game. It killed us last time we saw them.

I've been to many games at Western over the years. I wouldn't call that place a cracker box at all. Agreed, but not cavernous either and can be a tough home court with a relatively small crowd I remember from a few games. Smaller than Irving Gym. I also liked going up there at least for Saturday afternoon games. It is a tough place to play, especially when full. It gets very loud. I've always found games to be fun up there.

Our perimeter defense has to show up in this game. It killed us last time we saw them. Agreed. It seems to be the one major hangover from the Whitford era. He literally did not believe in defending the 3-point line, which is so weird given he believed in chucking as many threes as possible on the other end of the floor.

He literally did not believe in defending the 3-point line, which is so weird given he believed in chucking as many threes as possible on the other end of the floor. Probably true on some of the shots we let somebody get loose, but we had to contend with their inside game going to the basket. That was the main thing in the scouting report, not their 3pfg game.
The odd thing about the first game defense was that Norman who can get to the basket, was 7 for 7 at the line, did not hit inside the arc but was 6 for 9 from 3. And he hit some shots under pressure where he was defended well enough. The others were just 3 for 9 overall but were reasonably hot outside for most of the game.
The game plan for them seemed to be to hold the ball so we couldn't get going, then hit at the end of the clock. Either on the drive or Norman taking a 3. That part of their offense reminded me of the game we lost to Northern Michigan the under Whitford. Fortunately WMU hit a little cold spell and we stopped them at the end of the game.
We can do better defending but if Norman is that hot again, we'll have to play better offense. We were 4 for 15 from 3 and 50% at the line. We can improve both areas.

We need to announce our presence with authority and impose our will from the start. Can't let WMU feel they have a chance. They are on an epic losing streak. Had a couple of stinker games. I'm sure they want to turn that around and that they have some confidence they can play us well. You make a good point that we take away a lot of their success against us the first game if we get out to a lead...they make every game ugly with their physical play and on offense really controlled the pace of the game against us. Can't let them stay in the game and do that.
I don't think they can play as well offensively as they did, so maybe we can get out on the break make the game a faster pace, avoid that hacking half court D. That is brutal on their home court.
We have the video from the first game on how they defended us and I hope we can make some adjustments, but mostly just shoot better outside...
I'd guess we play them on defense with the same priority of defending the paint on drives, try to shut down their main offense, but improve help and recover on the other players when Norman goes to the basket. We did OK with the basic defensive idea we had,not great, but not bad. Well, except that they shot unexpectedly well on 3's, and seemed like they didn't miss a FT. If we do hold them in check shooting we need to keep them off the offensive boards.
I certainly hope we don't see Norman have another monster game from outside. That makes him impossible to defend.

Their big wins against Goshen, Concordia (MI), Siena Heights, and Houston Christian really worry me.
Actually, they are 326 in KenPom, which is the worst MAC team ranking of that last 10 years, except for last year's Western team which was 329.
This is a terrible, terrible opponent and the only relevant discussion is: exactly how enormous of a disaster would it be to lose to them?
