All teams have a small margin of error if they play like crap. Northern lost at home to two win Miami. You can take no game for granted. I think the Cards will rebound and play better on Tuesday. After the horrible loss at home to the Bulls, the Cards traveled to NIU and won by double digits, and this was after the Huskies had beaten Kent in DeKalb. Every game is a tough one in the MAC.
Go Cards!

This is the kind of game in mid to late February against a lesser opponent where you MUST have your stud show up and carry you. Contrary to popular opinion, that is not Sparks or Sellers or Jacobs. It’s Coleman. He has to be the calming, steady rock who plays with poise in the face of the Trap game. Unfortunately for us, that is not him never has been. He’s streaky and emotional which is a recipe for disaster when he doesn’t shoot well and has trouble taking care of the 🏀. I know it’s a team game guys but we are largely dependent on how he plays. When he shoots well and involves his mates, we can play with anyone i the league. If he is bad so are we usually.

Almost impossible to beat Kent or Akron. Slim chance, but a chance to beat Toledo. Eastern? Twenty wins, after today I’d say a possibility but not probable.

Who on this board actually thought that this lineup would be on the verge of a 20 win season? I think we laid a rotten stinking egg today for sure, but we are not dead. We have all looked at Kent in awe but they still have to come to Worthen. Can we stop the "almost impossible" talk until after we play the game? Let's see how this Staff and team rebounds from this awful day of basketball before we throw dirt on the grave.

What really sucks is this season can very quickly go way off the rails. We could legit end the season on a 5 game losing streak. Let’s hope that is not how this thing goes but we clearly are a fragile team with very little margin for error. Which direction will we go from here? Actually it could be a 6 game losing streak: 1) Western Michigan 2) Kent St 3) Eastern Michigan 4) Akron 5) Toledo 6) First Round MAC Tournament Game

So Lewis has not yet been able to craft a team that can avoid an occasional turd effort. Of course, all teams have their ups and downs, but efforts like the disgraceful beat down by Buffalo or losing to God-awful WMU are not acceptable in any way, shape or form. Whether this is the Boogie factor or whatever, I trust this will be addressed in recruiting, rather than by excuse-making and bar-lowering.
As for this year, we never thought this team was at a level where it could win the MAC tourney through consistency. You have to be plain better than the rest of the conference to win a tourney through simple consistency, and we aren't and nobody has ever claimed that we are. Rather, the hope was always that we could build our strength over the season, avoid a disadvantageous seed and go into the tourney with a puncher's chance to get on a roll and win it.
The WMU loss does not rule this hope out, but does tend to call into question both the seed and the built-up strength of the team.

Woe is us? We'll never win another game? The coach is a failure?
Sherm has a point that our hopes for a good draw and winning something in Cleveland are diminished. And, indeed, a good point that whether we are improved next year depends on who we keep from he present team and whether current recruits or new ones play well.
Duh.
But, never fear, I doubt Lewis or anyone else is going to lower the bar that our goal is to play for championships and win our share. Nor do I think we can't win some more games this year.
This game dimmed chances for a really really good MAC outcome, but if we play well the rest of the way, I want to see us play in post season somewhere, which I think would be good for development of the next team.

Eastern had an NBA night against us and they have folded but will still give us fits. Some of these teams in the tourney will have a bad night. I think we will play well the rest of the way and steal one or two. Ohio or NIU could have a really good game and just screw everything up.

Did 00mph just insinuate that I was belaboring an obvious point. 00mph? Well at least I did it in a couple sentences rather than 10 lengthy paragraphs.

As for this year, we never thought this team was at a level where it could win the MAC tourney through consistency... Rather, the hope was always that we could build our strength over the season, avoid a disadvantageous seed and go into the tourney with a puncher's chance to get on a roll and win it. I'm not sure we were ever going to have even much of a puncher's chance to win the tournament.
More a case where if we managed to win a game, play a team second game that perhaps had upset a top seed, we MIGHT get to a championship game against a better team that had been extended or that we at least had a good match up. That's when the puncher's chance might exist. That was remote, and less likely now.
Question now is can we win what will probably be a tough game in the first round. THAT might give us a decent chance in a second game.
Fact remains, the problems and issues with this team are lack of depth. That means if a key player like Sparks or Coleman or Sellers has a bad game, we are in huge trouble against good teams. Of course it is also a problem with possible foul trouble, and fatigue late in a game and especially in the 3 games, 3 nights grind of the tourney.
We have actually done oK in the"growth" factor with Jihad coming around and Pearson becoming a starter, but never developed scoring or defense off the bench. This was never a big favorite to happen and even if we had done a little better, we would have had a weak bench.
