ESPN Analytics give the Cards a 34.6% chance of winning Tuesday night. A big crowd could help, let's get out there and cheer them on!

So, I thought about making the 2.5 hour drive to Muncie to watch the game, but after attending the Western game my energy level for going to Muncie has up and gone. I’ll watch on tv and hope they win. They were just totally outplayed by Western as the Cardinals fell into their February slump. Hope they wake up for the next four games! I do plan on being at the Toledo game. Have my room secured at the Student Center Hotel.

To be quite honest, we just do not have the guard play to beat Kent. We've been able to overcome turnovers and bad shots/empty possessions against the lesser teams, until WMU. WMU has stud guards. Quick, athletic guards who can freaking shoot. Kent has the same, and Kent's guards are lock down defenders. We lack that. Coleman is talented, for sure, but, all over the place. Jacobs is our solid, dependable guard, but, as the season has gone on he's become inconsistent. How much injuries have to do with that, I don't know. We have NO ONE we can go to on the bench. (and before someone chimes in with, we have Bumb and Windham, no we don't. Not really. Not in a consistently effective way.) So, the Kent game will come down to 1. Grit and toughness, none of which we showed against WMU. 2. Commitment to finding ways to pound the ball inside and let Sparks/Jihad take it at Kent's interior players. But, can our guards even get the ball down the floor enough to get it to those guys? 3. Turnovers. STOP MAKING THEM. 4. Defending at a level we haven't in awhile. We guarded no one on WMU. 4. Hitting shots. (duh) Our guards have to produce over 40 minutes. Period. They have to hit a decent % of shots, and Coleman can't settle for just chucking 3s. He needs to get into the paint and create some things.
Bottom line, to beat Kent we have to play the best, most complete game we've played all year. I just don't see that happening. Kent 75-BSU 62.

Looking at the Western box score our turnovers were not glaring, but can be reduced, What killed us was we failed to get Sparks the shots inside. What you nail it that Western and Kent do defend well at guard, and both either have a star in the back court or are capable of going on a tear offensively. Our best defensive effort might be enough if only we had a defender off the bench. Bumb gives effort but he is physically no match for their guards. The difference is not so bad with the starters, but we just don't have the bench play at guard to stop Kent. Overall our guards are a strong point, it's just Kent is better...
So, I agree that even with that best effort we will need heroic guard play and maybe Kent to have a rare off night. They have had some games where they could be beat by a great effort.

I think our turnovers are more a case of when they occur rather than how often. We have them in spurts, often in the early stages of the game where we need to get off to a good start, or, have gotten off to a good start then start booting it and give up a nice lead. We tend to clean that up in the second half. Our guards are pretty good except when you compare them with Kent/Akron guards.

Our turnovers came at key times when we were seriously closing the gap. They chucked up far too many empty and often times air balls versus working for a better shot. It was a sorry game! Play that way against Kent and it will be an ugly loss by 20-30 points. Play our best game and we can keep it close with a “chance” for a win.

This can go 2 ways.
Way 1: We lay down and let them run over us. In this case, Kent by 30.
Way 2: We're pissed about the WMU loss, and come out with fire and intensity. In this case, we have a chance.

ESPN says we are a 3.5 point underdog! What are they smoking?

If Carry has the stomach flu we may have a chance he could probably still be able to shoot between barfs and shits though
