Nope, nope, nope... Lewis is the real deal. A 20 game winner in his first season, with someone else's players? He's the guy. The injuries at season's end were likely more troubling than we know. Nobody can ever accuse me of being a Whitford fanboy, but the plain fact is that he left Lewis too much talent to expect a fucking 20 point loss in the first round of the MAC tourney. That's just a fact. Yes Lewis inherited some talent. However, the equation changed at the end of the season when that talent was hampered by injuries.

Meet the new coach. Same as the old coach. Good to see a TOTALLY off base and uninformed opinion here. At least it shows the fringe is coming back. If you think this is the same as the old coach A) you have not been paying attention B) you don't know a basketball from third base C) you don't like Lewis D) you are just looking for a reaction E) you were not present when the old coach was here. F) *insert reason for silly comment *

Interesting differences in relative fan bases at the same school.
Football fans would have loved to shell out some extra cash to see a 6-6 team go to a bowl game.
Basketball fans have no interest in seeing a 20-12 team play another game.

I don't know how anybody who watched Whitford's last season(or any of his 9 years of mediocrity) can compare it to this year other than a first round loss. Most of the inherited roster improved to the point of competing and winning. Our bench has been limited for a decade, but this team won 20 games(lost two on last second shots--the Duquesne shot Ringling Brothers would be proud of..), and actually saw player development(Jihad, Pearson in particular)--something rarely seen in nine years prior. You cannot ignore the injuries or the fact that Ohio kicked our ass with a phenomenal FG %. Can't understand the lack of fire today, but I know that Lewis won't make any excuses. The atmosphere of BSU games changed from a mortuary to one of excitement and building crowds and I give Lewis a lot of credit for that. The 'aw shucks we lost' days won't be in Lewis' vocabulary either. Looking forward to seeing what Lewis can do with his recruits and continuing the improvement of the program.

".. fans have no interest in seeing a 20-12 team play another game"
Sorry, but other than the NIT, the pay to play tournaments are participation awards. And as to Bowl games? Total waste of money and resources.

Lewis said in today’s post game press conference that BSU has already been in discussions with more than one post season tournament so BSU may be playing more basketball after all.

Has lewis done a good job his first season at BSU? Absolutely! However, I want to see his ability to recruit his own players to further evaluate how good he really is. Great season. Players played hard and need to be commended.

Please. Do not even consider CBI, TBC, CIT, or any of the other outlier alphabet soup tourneys. Just stay in Muncie. Yeah, I think Lewis lost these guys. We quit sharing the ball and defending. It’s over. Let’s just save the money and go recruit. He’s gotta find some ballers. We need yo get longer and find guys who can shoot and go off like random guys go off on us all the time. Yes probably lost them in terms of energy and mental toughness bc they had not experienced that kind of physical and mental fatigue before to that level. This is his challenge going forward and that’s now to instill that kind of attitude. Lewis knows what it takes and how damn hard it is to get and keep it. Lewis took an old out of tune car and made it a competitive machine with what he had to work with. Good job for that! Hate to lose and I’m sure he does even more so. Looking forward to next season already!

Checked on the last second loss teams we played this season. 5th seed San Jose State (20-12) plays for the Semi-championship against #1 seed San Diego State(25-6) in the Mountain West Championship. The SJ Spartans beat #4 seed Nevada(Alford?) to advance. We lost to them in the Bahamas. As to the Dukes of Duquesne? They were a 6th seed in the Atlantic 10 Tourney and lost to 11th seed Lasalle. The Keith Drambrot Dukes finished 20-11.

Extremely disappointing! I did not watch much but what I did see was beyond awful. We had the deer in the headlights look with zero confidence. Hate to say it but we did not look prepared. I turned it off after Ohio made their early 1st half run. It was over with about 8 minutes left in the 1st half. Overall, this team is much better than the group that finished last year. Major improvement but like Sherm has said, it means Jack crap if you cannot perform in the tournament. We shit all over our selves today with no toilet paper to clean up. Let’s see how well he recruits this spring. What a let down today!

Interesting differences in relative fan bases at the same school. Football fans would have loved to shell out some extra cash to see a 6-6 team go to a bowl game. Basketball fans have no interest in seeing a 20-12 team play another game. I had a similar thought today. I think they are different situations though. First, if the bowl game were the 30th game of the season it would have a lot less impact. I generally want to watch as much BSU football and basketball as possible, but the law of diminishing marginal utility is real. Second, “bowl season” is more equivalent to march madness. The CBI is literally just a bunch of small time programs that failed having a consolation event. Going to a bowl at least in theory (and that may be going away) has the opportunity to match up against an interesting program that we couldnt otherwise play. The CBI will give us Tennessee Tech or someone else we wouldnt have any trouble scheduling in OOC if we wanted. Third, in this particular instance our team has pretty clearly quit. Injuries, lack of depth catching up to us, whatever the reason, if the players dont want to play then I dont want to watch. Fourth, I dont think cost has anything to do with what people want. I’d like a private jet. If someone said “i’m getting you a private jet whether you think it’s worth what i’m going to pay for it or not.” Then i would accept the private jet even if i recognized it was a stupid expense.
