I don't at all mind Hatcher being QB1. He's got numbers. I just don't want us to NOT utilize our best weapons in some manner. Like, we know Cooper is gonna get Carson Steel number of carries. But we really really need to be more diverse than off tackle on first and second down and a short of the sticks throw to a TE or to the boundary and then shank a punt. If Cooper gets Steele carries then that won’t be a good sign…and as I understand it that is not the intent. We have multiple weapons at TE (Hunt and Koziol), RB (Cooper and Pemberton) and a QB who can really sling it and then you add Kelly in different packages and you can absolutely keep a defense off-balance. This was not the case last year. Now we just have to hope that we don’t fall into a pattern of familiar stubbornness. FWIW, I’m going to jump on the optimism horse this one last time and hope like hell I don’t get thrown off.

I have no faith Neu/lynch will stick to whatever plan there is to be diverse.

So…….our offensive coordinator has been spending the off-season revamping the playbook?
Yeah, that happened.

Its progress if we don't throw an interception on the first play.

Its progress if we don't throw an interception on the first play. I was hoping we would double down and go for it again

I'm good with this. Hatcher can start the first 2 games, then we can go to Kelly when we have winnable games. Here's my hope. Let Hatcher get obliterated by Kentucky and Georgia and at the first sign of any struggle against Indiana State or Georgia South, pull him for Kelly and never look back. If by game 10 or 11 Kelly has failed, let the Californian play out the last game or two.

I'll let some of you guys in at end of game when they give away the old popcorn.

Let Hatcher get obliterated by Kentucky and Georgia and at the first sign of any struggle against Indiana State or Georgia South, pull him for Kelly and never look back. If by game 10 or 11 Kelly has failed, let the Californian play out the last game or two. I suggest a different scenario for the early season. And if we are failing by game 10, who cares...
The obliteration in the first two games is a given, but the staff will be planning from day 0 to win those next two games.
Keeping their best bet at QB from season ending injury probably means both Hatcher and Kelly play in those 2 games. Whoever they think is their best bet for the MAC season and hopefully has been playing best, starts the next two and will get a chance to win those games. Probably playing relatively conservative FB. These are games where we don't want to show everything we have and hopefully don't need great fireworks to sin. If the dual QB system with a package featuring Kelly is for real, and I lean toward believing that, then both will play in those two games.
What happens next as we hit the MAC is where reality hits. We will need to over achieve and take some risks to be any good in the MAC. That may also mean the dual QB thing is in play. If this scheme works, great. After 4 games, if one or the other QB just isn't producing well enough to win...either way we go at QB we probably have to play more wide open. Whether we go with a more pass happy attack or an option type running attack which throws the opponent off, it has to be dynamic. I have nothing against a good running game powered by a very good RB, but in the MAC that rarely is enough. If none of this works, which QB is busily rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic is irrelevant.
I just don't think we can play conservatively and win enough games, and keeping it close while losing will not keep the coach's job safe.
Neu has a relatively short leash and must at the very least get to a bowl and avoid embarrassing home losses in the MAC. That's a low bar, would not satisfy many here. However, being competitive in the MAC is likely the ceiling for this team and I think he has a enough good will that achieving that ceiling and being able to look to the future with a good recruiting effort will make his job secure.

RIP KK If we are calling risky plays very often in these first 4 games something is very wrong. Play calling for the past several years has already shown something is very wrong. You don't need "risky plays" this year to establish that.
