If we are calling risky plays very often in these first 4 games something is very wrong. Play calling for the past several years has already shown something is very wrong. You don't need "risky plays" this year to establish that. The problem has not been risky plays when they should not...that would add a new dimension. When they aren't calling risky plays in games where we really need that element, then we'll be seeing one thing that has been wrong in the past.

Ha no way it’s this close. Kentucky is predicted to be #3 in the SEC East and it’s their home opener. You’re looking more like 48-13

I like the 31-17 prediction. I think that is very realistic.

My hope was that Kelly would win the job but I am not surprised Neu is going with Hatcher. He has more game experience and has put up pretty good numbers. I hope it works out and proves to be the correct decision. Time will tell.

If I were Kelly I wouldn't be asking myself whether I could wait one more year in the wings. I'd be asking myself whether this coaching staff is willing to (or can) put an offense on the field that caters to my strengths. Last year I sat behind Paddock, who did not perform well. This year I'm sitting behind a grad transfer they bought in, even though I've now had 3 years of camp to prove what I can do. Who will I lose out to next year. Another grad transfer? Our hot-shot red-shirt freshman. If I"m Kelly and I want to be a QB, I'm moving on if I don't get a good opportunity this year, even if the starter will be gone. Why would I think this staff is going to change or that I can change their impression of me at this point. OTOH, if I'm willing to play some other positions ...

Transfer to an school that plays differently using his skills isn't a slam dunk. He would have to really stand out in a limited role this year. And then he's have a great chance to start. His best chance was probably to get a real shot last year.
It's almost like being a QB is a disadvantage. Too good to not be valued as a back up. Apparently not a good enough fit to be the starter.
Would he be on the field at another position? Would he have a chance to be such a play maker to even get a chance in the pros?

I like the 31-17 prediction. I think that is very realistic. We are 27 point underdogs per Vegas…not going to be a two score game

Either Kelly will decide he loves bsu enough to switch to wr if he doesn’t get a real shot at Qb or he leaves to go where a staff actually is serious about him playing Qb. We’ll find out by MAC play if the whole “package for Kelly” stuff is just lip service and he lied to him. Toledo went from a package for Finn in 2021 to committing to Finn last year and ended up with a MAC championship and a win in the boca ration bowl. Not overwhelming as a passer but deadly as a dual threat that kept defenses honest. Why can’t bsu do that? Ask Mike….. my opinion: Neu prefers a traditional run first and throw to compliment the run and catch defenses cheating to stop the run. The Schudel offense, basically. And, Mike has recruited the kid from Cali and has gotten a commitment from the stud in Illinois who can run that type of offense efficiently and that’s who he truly wants back there. Hatcher is a gunslinger type with a ton of experience so that makes sense. Bottom line Neu knows Kelly can make plays but doesn’t trust him with the full offense and that will probably never change. Kelly could have won the Miami game last years but, no trust. The offense stagnated with Paddock late and that was that. If Kelly had been on the field the drive where we failed on 4th down I am convinced we stay on the field and run out the clock. But, whatever. We’ll see how it goes this year.

The worst part about this, if true (and I tend to think it probably is), is that Neu would appear to be telling Kelly little white lies to keep him around when he probably should advise the kid that he might have a better shot at another school. But, yes, we'll see how it goes.

If he doesn't get real chance here this year and produce some track record won't that transfer option we're discussing be long shot. Except maybe at a lower level?
