I’m not totally sold on RPO … However, watching Kelly gain a little confidence as the game moved, I am at least interested. He needs more reps to see what he can do. Hope he gets the opportunities. He showed fight. Give the kid a chance.
Couple other thoughts:
-Woukd like to see a fully confident Kelly. He can be a weapon.
-Hatcher is good. Regardless of what happens in 2023, he’s going to get a pro-level shot. He had 10K yards. Would be nice to see someone build an O around his talents.
-Offense seems to reduce receiver confidence. Would love a trained eye to confirm it.
-I’d like to see other OLs play. Cooper’s really good. Reminds me of Card great MiQuale Lewis. We had an OL in 2008 that eventually produced 4 NFL OLs. Do we have some young guys who can ball?
-According to the broadcast, Neu’s a lot tighter with the Lynch’s than I realized. Has Mike decided to go down with Lynch ship (no OC changes)? Ug!!!!!
-The D really showed up. Will be curious to see Stockton’s next step. He’s good.

While it is nice we didn't get embarrassed today, I don't feel optimistic about much going forward. Still there are more questions than answers. Our offense is bad no matter who is playing qb. We barely had 200 total yards. That is rough. If Kelly is going to be a starting qb he needs to get much better as a passer. Maybe that comes with more reps. The weather certainly didn't help today. I say let him play the rest of the way and see how he progresses. A bowl game is essentially out of the equation so there is no reason to play your 7th year senior qb. With that all being said, none of it really matters with Lynch calling the plays. I wouldn't say play calling was much of a factor. We had a plan and followed it. We needed to make the plays called, and need better players more than we needed different plays called today.

Kelly is an athlete and he’s intriguing but he has the touch of a blacksmith. He’s epically horrible as a passer. Zero touch or feel of when to run vs. throw. Not the answer though I wish he was.

Big crew of current 7th/8th graders.

I say you go with Kelly or Semonza the rest of the way. Don't worry about burning Semonza's redshirt if he gives us the best chance to win.
Kelly will be erratic but he's got a higher yards per attempt figure than Hatcher or Semonza, at least he did before today. If they all throw 10 passes Hatcher and Semonza will complete 6 for 35 yards. Kelly will complete 4 for 40. Those figures not precise; just an example. He'll also take off and run a few times and likely avoid a few sacks that Hatcher would definitely take, although Semonza can be pretty elusive and seems to have a good feel for the pocket and moving within it to keep plays alive.

Emu qb was 9 of 25 passing today. They won. Why? Because they’re well coached and have players who can make plays, and a tough D.
We can win with Kelly at qb even if he’s not a good passer. BUT, we can’t claim being well coached or that we have other guys who can make plays. The d isn’t bad but it goes in the tank at really bad times.

Did anyone else feel as though we were like 30+ fewer players dressed for todays game than we have had for the previous two home games ?

Hate that we’re not competing for a championship… ok. however, let’s let it loose. Kelly, with all of his talents, play him - designing an O around his talents. Move in some young OLs, run Spegal and Cooper, open the WRs, and let’s let it fly. D is good.

They also housed the opening kickoff on an onside botch from Kent. That helped them.

Many on these pages are on board with this. Unfortunately, the changes we've talked about on offense are just a pipe dream this this coaching staff. They can give Kelly the ball and let him do what he can, but "designing an O around his talents" is just a fantasy.

His talents aren't going to be flinging the FB all over the field. If we had those WRs and great OL that'd be more feasible, but we don't. I'd be open to keeping Hatcher as an option we use, and he might be a necessity, if Kelly can't improve.

But that chance to win with him is dependent on his improving. Kelly probably has to be an average passer for us to compete. I don't think we can count on finding others to radically improve, or D to be able play so well as to win games.
