Did y’all view Jihad as a post player back in the Whitford era? I seem to remember him just jacking up 3’s. Do I have him confused with someone else? No hes not a post at all his best work comes from facing the basket. He gets beat up fouls a ton and misses layups when playing the true post roll

Jihad shot 28% from 3 last year. He really needs to slow down the hoisting of the 3-pointers.

Today’s game was a barometer of where we are with this team. First test against a team in our weight class. We played tough, defended, were resilient, weathered a bad offensive stretch and hit some FT’s to ice it.
Our first five is very capable. Our bench not so much. Bell, Middleton and Brown at guard are going to be streaky and make mistakes. When Doughty gets his legs (missed first 6 weeks with foot injury) he will help on the frontline. Hendricks will have to play some but he is not a rotational answer. The real mystery is Brittain-Watts. I wouldn’t expect him to be effective until MAC schedule at best but he’s a grad transfer and would give us a steady presence off the bench in the back court.
Winning today was a great sign. In case you didn’t already know, Lewis is a damn good coach.
EDIT: Anderson played 39 minutes, Jones and Pearson played 37 each and Bailey played 33. Basheer would have played more had he not been in foul trouble. That is not remotely sustainable. The bench must get better quickly. I also concur that we did not defend well on the dribble drive. It’s early.

Need to work on everything particularly stopping dribble drive. Overall pleasantly surprised at how well we did against a really quick team. Also watche Ball State women dismantle a good Troy team in the MAC/SBC challenge. I think we won by at least 15. Toledo and BSU seem to be the only two teams to have won in the challenge the rest of the conference teams are or have been losing at a double digit clip. Troy was not a patsy. They are picked to finish second in SBC. Our women's team really has to get much better rebounding the ball. Becki was off her game today and sat out most of the first half but others picked up the slack

Jihad shot 28% from 3 last year. He really needs to slow down the hoisting of the 3-pointers. Shooting .375 in 2 games. Not so good today...but that's the thing about 3pfg% Team shooting pretty well and that they came out firing and Lewis was not steaming means we're going to see that. 21 for 52 so far... They could come out on us today and recover, or stay in front of our drives. Against a less quick opponent the threat may open the lane for drives even more. Against ODU we got some fouls.

Thought we played a pretty good game against a very quick team. Jihad was MIA in the first half, but looked better in the second. Anderson was smooth and I really like the D of Jones. Got to develop a bench. Good win!

It's one game but this result could possibly suggest that upper middle of the pack MAC rather than lower middle of the pack MAC might be the expectation, and that the talent drop off from Whitford players to Lewis players may not be quite as steep as it previously appeared. The general expectation of a mediocre MAC team was reinforced. Not to get carried away with crazy optimism, but maybe a higher level of mediocre.
In three years at Loyola Marymount, Anderson never averaged double figures and had a career high of 20. But now no one can say he CAN'T score 29 against a MAC level opponent, because he did.
Not a lot to distinguish the teams from a statistical standpoint EXCEPT that BSU took significantly more 3's and hit a better percentage. Just an average percentage, but much better than ODU's terrible percentage.
I didn't follow the game live but I can see it was fairly close throughout with multiple lead changes and it's always good to win games like that.

ODU apparently a terrible outside shooting team, and not a good post up team, but thriving on getting to the basket.
Whitford's recruiting left us with a talented starting 5 last year, no depth. We've cobbled together a pretty good starting 5, probably not as good, but potentially more depth. The team is so lacking in experience Lewis started a freshman, and didn't go to the bench much. Especially after Middleton did not have his head in the game and Bell didn't play as well as he did in the exhibition or Goshen game.
The talent may well be as great or greater overall, but very inexperienced, so any chance to be good is going to take some time, middle of MAC somewhere.

Anderson may have a little touch of Boogie in him that needs to be throttled back some times. Can we agree to no longer mention that player by name? Henceforth, he shall be called "The Dude Who Dicked Us Twice (TDWDUT)."
