I know Doughty looks lost now, but I think he's going to be a player for us. He "looks" bigger than anyone else on the team and he's got the frame to put on another 20 pounds, if not more. When he does that, and gains some experience and confidence, he's going to give teams some issues. Maybe he is a candidate for the "Purdue Pete" treatment. This has been some years back now, but I remember how Purdue came up with a series of players who went from buried-on-the-bench nobodies to highly effective standout players on the basis of developing huge muscles. Steve Scheffler and Jim Rowinski are two of them. Rowinski in particular went from hardly playing as an underclassman to Big 10 player of the year his senior year, in the process becoming a dead ringer for the Purdue mascot. I'm sure it took many hours in the weight room and uhhh (cough) the right nutrition (cough) but Doughty may be the ideal candidate for this transformation.

Doughty is not going to be just a muscle head. He's active and can be a more well rounded BB player. I really had expected we would get a transfer who gave us muscle this year.
The Purdue Pete players do have their use even if they don't develop skills, so if that is all he does we can use it, but more likely he's a player for this century, not just a bruiser.

I've probably just missed it previously, but has everyone else noticed the "lost production" graphic that showed on the center scoreboard at the game? Showed the contributions lost by the grads/tranfers.
While it is certainly a statement of fact that the Cards lost a lot of production, it just seemed like putting that up just fell into the realm of excuse making. Kind of a "If we suck today, here's part of the reason why."

I suppose in a worst case scenario, Baily can get a medical red-shirt and still have 2 years to play college basketball. "According to the NCAA rules, in order to be granted a medical redshirt, the athlete must: Suffer an injury that is deemed “season-ending” Their injury must occur before the halfway point of the season. Not participate in more than 30% of the season's games."

Having a season ending now as opposed to 10 games from now when he would lose an entire year of eligibility. I'm not a doctor (maybe you are?) but getting an MRI implies it's a bit more than a simple sprained ankle. We're BSU so things almost always turn out for the worse, or haven't you been paying attention for the past 20 years?

I mean, that's a LOT of production...

From what I understand from this board, BSU has an insoluble roster dilemma. As demonstrated by the core of Sparks/Sellers/Coleman: They were NOT GOOD ENOUGH to contend for a MAC championship, or even to win a single MAC tourney game. But on the other hand, they were TOO GOOD for BSU to keep in the face of NIL and the portal, and so Lewis can't be blamed for having a lesser roster this season.
This implies that it's a logical impossibility to have the players needed to contend. The not-good-enough and too-good categories actually overlap, so there is no room in between in today's environment.
Meanwhile Kent, Toledo, Akron and OU contended last year and appear to be contenders again this year. Why they are not afflicted by the same roster dilemma as BSU, I don't know. As near as I can figure, there must be some NCAA bylaws that somehow exempt them from the roster dilemma that Lewis faces at BSU. This seems really unfair to me.

It happens on occasion,
