I hate that trip.... Miami is a great trip though Except I have to sit with inlaws who are Miami fans...very bad unless we win. Only good thing was getting to know Charley Cole. Can't think of much good on FB side. Charlie was the most loved coach in the MAC. He also engaged with the Ball State fans. Great coach. I have always felt and suggested that the trophy for coach of the year in MAC basketball should be named for Charlie Coles.

“NIU trophy game will be honored each year outside of the pods (i.e. played each year, along with two pod teams).”
Is this confirmed? I feel like that would mess up the whole point of the pod scheduling if they did that and create a waterfall effect for the other pods. I’m guessing the NIU trophy game will just be every few years. I live more north so I enjoy the NIU trip so that’s unfortunate.

I think should pursue Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State. Both have a solid history in their Dic 1A conference. Both have MAC level facilities. Good football, good basketball, good fit. We did a few years ago. They said no. and look at what they’re stuck with now

2024 conference schedule is out. We don’t play EMU, Akron, or Toledo. At Ohio, CMU, Buffalo, and Kent. Home vs. NIU, Miami, WMU, and BG. On paper this schedule looks pretty favorable. Majority of the tough games are home (if that means anything). Not playing Toledo or EMU is definitely a plus.

Problem is with portal we really have no idea

So besides our two pod games vs Miami and Ohio the other 6 games are random? I thought we would actually play other pods and rotate pods every year. That’s not the case because we play teams from all pods and don’t have a complete pod on our schedule besides ours. And NIU trophy game doesn’t even happen in 2025 so they didn’t prioritize trophy games like they said.

Just asking, but just because it's a trophy game does that make it a rivalry ? Do you guys really feel as though we have a real rival ? I mean, I don't see it, but then I'm not a former player or insider.

Maybe NIU considers us one? Both of us do not have other in-state schools to ruffle our feathers/fur.

Anyone that started closely following around the early 2000's see NIU as the rivalry... Some of us view it as Toledo
