I think most of us, and I'll start with myself, owe Big Ben an apology. The young man is playing his ass off and contributing.

The 1st half against Bellarmine is the best he has looked.

He also doesn't seem to have the Sparks problem at the free-throw line.

The 1st half against Bellarmine is the best he has looked. Yes, but regardless of stats, he's been playing extremely hard lately and putting his body on the line for the team

Huge change, and it must have involved a huge change in his practice and work during the summer. He came to BSU and for a couple of years disappointed in both those areas.

Lewis develops players. Good for Ben! And us. I was telling a friend at the game with me today, who doesn't usually follow BSU, that if Hendriks becomes ANY kind of serviceable player, let alone a starter and contributor, that the credit is Lewis'. While I think Whitford's emotional guidance of players was a strength of his, he did next to nothing to develop Hendriks. Guy was sitting the pine in 30-point games, regardless of win, loss, or opponent.

Ben Hendriks is quickly working his way onto the list of greatest Canadians of all time. Right up there with Dudley Do-Right, Alexander Graham Bell, Dan Aykroyd, and Francis Kiapway.

While I think Whitford's emotional guidance of players was a strength of his, he did next to nothing to develop Hendriks. Guy was sitting the pine in 30-point games, regardless of win, loss, or opponent. Hendriks was a problem child from day 1. Not clear the reason for it, but he did not adhere to off season training requirements and plans, did not ever arrive back on campus in shape, and although a good "team mate" in many ways, a good guy, he was just never the player, certainly didn't have the fire he's shown or the mental awareness. Maybe something changed for him independently of coaching, maybe Lewis ignited that fire last year. He's bought into an inside game role which he had not done. In any case Lewis deserves credit for recognizing potential and not booting him. The change explains why we didn't recruit another big. I'd sure love it if Lewis can reach the other Freshmen we aren't currently seeing. He's done better with Brown than I expected, not really as surprising to see Middleton respond. Jones is just a good fit and was predictable.

Brown can be a star, but he’s got A LOT of work to do.
