I would say Lewis's 2023 freshman recruiting was decent, but not outstanding. Problem is that, these days, freshman recruiting is only a piece of the roster puzzle....and the smaller piece. The larger piece being the portal. The 2023 portal was a huge net negative for BSU and that's why the roster has been degraded from what Whtiford left. People want to avert their eyes from this and make excuses because...well, that's just what people do around here. Lewis can probably continue to recruit freshman at pretty much the level he is and win a championship. But he is going to have to significantly improve his dealing with the portal. He is going to have to succeed in the portal more like Toledo, OU, Kent, and Akron have done or he will continue to get his ass kicked by Toledo, OU, Kent and Akron on the court. I think most people thought he needed to bring in another veteran big if not two. He either couldn't or didn't want one. The same question we had for Whitford every freaking year. He did get Doughty expecting more this year from him and a higher ceiling later. Took a gamble for later payoff with Joey Brown and Middleton. Which may or may not come to pass. Had we also signed a good vet, probably losing Adams to do that, it would have been a grade A class.

The first half we got once again bullied by Kent. Yes they are quicker and more talented but we did come back from 19 points down. Second half score was Kent 41 BSU 39. For those of you who are bored watching the men tune in tonight for the womens game. Our womens team does not take any prisoners. The team presses for most of the game and has a deep bench. If it is aggressive get after it basketball you like then tune in at 7 ESPN+. Their record is 10-2 losing only to Notre Dame and Connecticut.

Might not be an equal replacement for one of our lost players from last year, but good.
Adams?
I guess he could be? Who would be able to tell...All-MAC talent for two years injured and no report of imminent change makes that less than relevant.

Anderson is fine but he's always in foul trouble and disappears for long periods of time, even when not sitting on the bench due to foul trouble.
Adams? You'd think he'd have played in more than a few minutes in the Goshen and Oakland City games if he were all MAC talent. Even honorable mention. Do you think he meant Ethan Brittain-Watts?

Watts a starter maybe, or good reserve, not a star. His experience would have been good for us.

When Anderson is on he's pushing first-team all-MAC status. The problem, as you said, is that he disappears for long stretches. He only played about 7-8 good minutes last night - not acceptable. Our guards looked grossly outmatched athletically the entire game last night. It was embarrassing.

Either Lewis is going to imprint his competitiveness and fire on this program or not. So far, it's not. So far, only Boogie Coleman has come close to having enough moxie and swagger to stare down the MAC east bullies. I still have my doubts as to whether he can attract and keep transfers who have an edge. Like it or not, players like Myrine Thomas and Coleman are not loveable but they're nasty enough to carry the choir boys through the road games and other competitive contests. Reevo is 100% spot on that we have to find guys who are physical, like contact, like to bang the boards and will play defense with an attitude.

Yeah Davion is solid but not All-mac. Yes. I'd giggle about Adams. Anderson and Bailey just roll my eyes a little. At least both could have big games and look all MAC in that game.

In this league, you must have at least 3 really solid guards...4 is better. We have two. Coleman bailing late and no Brittain Watts has gutted us. Middleton has some talent and potential but he's gonna be a yoyo freshman with some good and some invisible games. Probably more invisible.

Middleton, and maybe even Brown, may help by the end of the season.
Still leaving us with lack of front line talent substituting Hendrix for Sparks...
