My observation is that Middleton is improving quickly which we need desperately. Problem is Anderson appears to be going the opposite direction. To have a prayer at going to Cleveland we need them both and a somewhat healthy Hendriks. Jones is getting better every game but freshman tend to hit a wall in late February. We depend on freshman too much. I think it's unlikely we make the top 8. If we do, Lewis has done a good job coaching this mess. His plan was to get more out of both the injured players and to see one of these guys do better than we have seen. But this was a rebuilding year.
Hendricks and Pearson and Jihad have been pretty good. Improved, but the depth issue has to be a disappointment and the transfers not quite as good as hoped.

Remaining Schedule
at Western Michigan Ohio at Texas State at Miami at Northern Illinois Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan Western Michigan Kent State at Bowling Green
We'll need to see focused play and mental toughness to win any of these games. To win more than 2 or three the team will need to be significantly better than they have been.
I'm not giving up on the guys. They have not quit and we don't play the games to lose. I think they've got it in them. That doesn't mean I have any confidence they'll get it done.

Man, short of playing out of our asses I see 3 more wins tops and we fall short of top 8. Have to wonder if we’ll just eventually flame completely out like we did at the end of last season.

Could be with the numbers we have. An injury or foul trouble, we die. I mean, imagine saying this last year, but if Hendricks isn't at full strength, it's likely we just can't win. Outside chance I suppose Brown or the Euro guy or Bell step up, but that ain't likely.

Jeez what a bunch of Debbie Downers! You guys with all your talk of it being unlikely to make Cleveland, or needing an outstanding coaching job to do so, or only winning 2 or 3 more games are not taking into account the terribleness of the remaining schedule.
Eastern is atrociously bad....a good bit worse than us. Northern, Western and Central are very bad...no better than us. Buffalo we don't play again but they probably won't ever reach the number of wins we already have. Northern is 0-8 in conference. We have FIVE games left against this sorry group.
It's just not that hard to reach Cleveland. I think our chances are about 50-50. As I keep saying, I think it will come to a tie-breaker.

Was wearing a sling at the end of the game. He had a stat line of 15-5-6 against us. We definitely need to stay healthy to have a chance at the top 8. Appears other teams are catching the injury bug as well.

Why is anyone surprised at the poor record? If I remember correctly the Cards were picked to finish 8th in the MAC. With some luck and great play, we just might be good enough to get the 8th spot in the tournament. We lost four starters, three to the Portal, and both Sellers and Coleman were late in their decisions to move on. The red and white return less than 20 points from last year's team. It is not hard to understand why the Cards are not very good. The good thing is they don't seem to quit.
Go Cards!

Get ready for an encore at the end of the season. The mid Major coaches who will succeed are the ones who can sell their best players on staying because you're building a monster and just need a few transfers to complete the picture. Selling that story after this season to Basheer is slim to none, IMO. Plus who knows which kids will want to stay given the rigor of playing under ML.
It's easier to sell that vision when you've got a recent example or resume. We don't.
I think most of us are fine with virtually all of the bench saying adios with the exception of Middleton. I assume the Canuck is finally going to graduate and head back North. Will Jones and Doughty both stay? Who knows. Pearson? Maybe but wouldn't be surprised if he gets the itch. Bailey and Anderson could stay but I just don't know who feels loyalty to the staff and more importantly, which of these players feels like we are building something special here? How many of you feel that? In the old-school format of building a program I was very confident Lewis could make us a contender. In the new world order where you have to convince your best not to jump ship AND convince a bunch of mercenaries that you're THAT program who will win the MAC this next year? Not so sure I am feeling it.

I think we’d need to come up with “I want to stay” money to keep Bashir. I don’t think we have that.

I think we need to sell the Jihad brothers on playing their senior season together at Ball State.

Going forward we need to see a lot more of Middleton; he makes things happen. He's quick and can drive the lane. At the end of the year we can kiss Jihad goodbye. In an interview with the Daily News he said he has NBA aspirations so he's gone. I can also see Middleton leaving and most of the bench.

Well if he thinks going elsewhere is going to get him brighter exposure he doesn't have to look very hard or far to see how that can turn out. Here he's "the" guy. Go somewhere else and he could be the next Sparks or Coleman.

I don't think today's players respond well to Lewis's in-your-face style of coaching. I see many, many players exiting.
