Anyone with serious coin and any connection to BSU is already on someones prospect list. I have it on good authority that if someone's given some they both have and are willing to give more. True and they are carefully handled. You lose donors if they get multiple requests from all the areas that need money. The game is to maximize amount of gifts over time and get the money to priority areas. The President has a delicate job with handling this. If there is a pitch to a donor for such a priority or plans to make one, it's hands off to others without clearance.

Usually donors like Schnatter get lots of grace but rumor was that Letterman threatened to bow out of his relationship if the U didn't kick PJ to the curb. If that's true, then they should have told Letterman to fuck off. While I appreciate his past donations, you can't give him that kind of power. Unless he was willing to pony up the same amount that Schnatter was going to give.

Lewis has demonstrated in his two short years that he's willing to do about anything to promote the program and get people to come to our games. That's his personality. Shy, he is not. That's the kind of head coach you want in this new world order. He's good in a room with donors or recruits but he has to have some institutional support. I have no insight as to how we are doing in that respect but the quality of our signees will tell the tale. If we get some good, impactful transfers it would stand to reason that we had some money to spend. If we get projects or question mark guys or bring in 2 or 3 freshmen, you can surmise we have limited NIL funds. BTW, if the Feed the Bird collective website is out of date, then hire a marketing group to manage it. Its not a huge expense and your digital front door is a pretty big deal these days.

The University can't hire for that purpose, it has to be the collective, which means they need donations to cover it. Chicken and egg?
A small scale collective is small in part because they have seen little interest. If they get interest, I don't see the principals there turning down money or failing to exploit it.
I know some feel there is great untapped potential in NIL fund raising, and there just HAS TO BE that interest out there. That is just not proven.

Behind a paywall. What’s the gist of the article?

Behind a paywall. What’s the gist of the article? Among other things it discusses why making athletes employees is good and bad. Bad for the smaller programs...
I'll look at again and post some notes later.

If the NCAA could institute a revenue-sharing plan with athletes, along with a salary cap (like the NFL does), we might get somewhere, but it would have to include all of D1. It would also require an anti-trust exemption from Congress, which would have it's own strings attached.
One of the reasons Congress continues the NFL's anti-trust exemption is accessibility to broadcast TV for local teams. If you haven't noticed, any NFL teams that play on ESPN or Amazon are also on broadcast TV in the local markets of the 2 teams playing (assuming the game is a sellout). Would NCAA teams be able to accommodate those kinds of conditions? Of course, that may implode the current TV rights deals that each conference holds. How would that play out?
I don't see any other way forward.

Here's the article from the Athletic: Uh, I would think that someone with "journalism" in their username would realize that this is likely a copyright violation...

The collective should contract with a private firm or individual to manage their site and socials. Which means they have to divert money from donations for that purpose. How much bang for the buck will they get? I'm not sure their website or management is their big problem. More, lack of interest.

Kent State loses another to the portal. Tyem Freeman, 6'6" shooting guard, will be looking for his 4th home in four years. (Missouri State & UCF before Kent)

It would then be his last year.
