On Jihad's tweet, I copied the latter part to a friend yesterday. The first paragraph said the obligatory, "Thanks Ball St...." The second paragraph said, "I have decided it is best for me to enter the portal at this time with keeping the opportunity for a return alive."
Not sure why he would delete that. Maybe he's already getting offers similar to what Anderson, Sparks, and Boogie received? I can't imagine he's pulling his name out of the portal, but I'd be thrilled if he did.
If this deleted tweet is still how he feels this morning, on the one hand, maybe a guy like Jihad who gave you three years deserves some leash on this decision. But my guess is that he gets several great NIL offers. So for my money, we need to assume that he is leaving. If we don't offer a certain big a scholarship because we are waiting on Jihad's decision, only for him on May 5th to accept a large NIL offer from Kansas St or Minnesota or who knows who, Lewis will spend all of 2024-25 regretting that. Lewis isn't dumb, and he had to learn a lot about how this works last summer.
Quick update: His tweet is posted again, along with other posts about him entering the portal.

I’d say he’s probably 99% gone. I suppose the 1% chance of staying depends on someone coming up with a shitload of dimes…..

If we have the money to match outside offers that we probably need to pay that premium, we should be able to buy an equivalent or better value at guard or wing.
It really doesn't look like our need is a center, and given our big guy is strictly an inside player, Jihad would contribute most with his outside shooting. We can get a better outside shooter, and one who would add more to the team on defense.
If we don't have the money to match the outside money, maybe he'll give us a discount, but that better bang for the buck on a guard might still be preferable.
A good ball handler with an outside shot should be our priority.

I hope he has his sights set on a mid major or he could experience Sparksomania.
His highlight film of the last 3-4 games would not cause a program to dig deep

Anybody aware of any analysis that's been done on transfers?
Whether more kids are moving up, down or laterally?
Whether players are making more of an impact moving up, down or laterally?
I admittedly don't follow it closely enough on a national level to know. On the small sample size that I'm aware of, it seems like kids who move up make the most impact and kids that move down seem to generally prove that they probably shouldn't have been at that higher level to begin with.
