Sherm, no reason to doubt effort to cash in on success.
I'd assume good effort. Well. Except maybe the AD and President might discourage conflicts with ongoing fund raising efforts.
That is common when two areas in the University both want money from the same donor. For that matter if athletics found new money, the same thing conceivably could happen. Seen that happen.
But, assume good effort. It's definitely true having money makes success in the NIL war more likely. Almost a lock.
Having success could indeed motivate a reluctant donor, too. Especially for a one time, short term inflow. Unfortunately, that is not quite as certain.
IF we both get a good player and keep our best player that's doing amazingly well!
There's a good chance that to do that has already got us some NIL support. That scarcity thing may mean we've bagged all the loose money we could already, for this transaction.

Hope for Jalen’s sake he doesn’t sit on the bench like Boogie did at Nebraska!!

Hope for Jalen’s sake he doesn’t sit on the bench like Boogie did at Nebraska!! Assuming he goes to a power school, my sense is that his impact will be a little closer to Sparks and Boogie than Sellers. A good player, not sure he's a big 10 player. But a player will always bet on themselves and the lure of the payday/bigger program is too great.

Verbal Commits now shows Joey Brown in the portal. Athletic kid with a low basketball IQ. We have that 6’7” HS kid coming in next year that is a defensive freak. That tells me he has some hoops IQ. Brown was expendable. Brown seemed to have troubles adjusting to the accountability of being in college.

Anderson played a pretty decent role (25 min. per game, almost 10 ppg) on a pretty good Loyola Marymount team before coming to BSU. I think he'd find a more prominent role at Minnesota than did Sparks at IU.

Hmmm, I’m sure Minny didn’t contact him till AFTER he was officially in the portal…. Anyone think we had any contact with Sparks before he entered the portal? I don't think it would have been necessary for things to turn out as they have, and I'm sure some of his former teammates were in touch, all of which I assume would be A-OK. But I wonder if a coach might have, at any time during the season, reached out with a few words of encouragement during what was probably a tough year. Wonder if that might have happened and if it might have technically broken some rule. Not that I really care. I think most of these rules are BS anymore.

If I could rephrase what I said, maybe he's more like a contributing, rotational player off the bench at a school like Minnesota. Bummer to lose him, but not shocking either. He seems like a good dude. But if I had to choose, I'm more excited about regaining Sparks (and having several spots open up) than bummed about losing Anderson.

We might be better off without Anderson being our lynchpin for the 2024-25 team. There just seemed to be too many times he got into a funk early in a game and never got out of it resulting in way too many turnovers and bad decisions. Then there was that epic 3 missed free-throws in the Miami (Ohio) game.
Really puts pressure on Lewis to now find a PG to at least back-up Brittain-Watts. Looking at the current roster that is left, I guess Bailey would fill that role, but he's more of a shoot first guy rather than distributing the ball for an assist.
And who knows what we have in Brittain-Watts. Sure Lewis knows, but can we even count on Brttain-Watts being healthy next season? Suppose it depends on what his injury was this year; another deep dark secret.
We better see another useable PG on the roster.

I agree to an extent on Anderson’s role at Minnesota; he will most likely be a back up PG which will gain more minutes than Boogie. But then I would argue that Boogie played on a better team and frankly was a better player even if he was all about Boogie

It shouldn't be all that difficult to find a better point guard than Brittain-Watts. He's never averaged more than 2.0 apg. I mean, I'm glad we have him but I'm not sure he's even MAC average as a point guard and thus I don't feel like the starting point guard spot is completely locked down at this point.
How do we feel about the additional muscle that Sparks has apparently put on? Too much? Did he become a bit muscle-bound? Or might he physically beat up on the MAC the way the good MAC teams have been physically beating up on us for years? I didn't see him play this past year so I don't know what to think. It does appear that we will just have to live with the terrible free throw shooting. Seems like another completely different coaching staff failed to help that any. Not that "Woody" and his staff have shown any particular competence in coaching basketball in any respect. Still, I reflect that Sparks shot 75% in high school (on a large number of attempts) and wonder.
