MAC Tourney games will be on ESPN+. BSU plays Toledo today. First pitch is at 12:30 pm ET.
Looks like Toledo will be throwing Umberger, their ace. He leads the MAC with the lowest ERA (3.82?)
BSU will probably throw Beeker, the MAC Pitcher of the Year.
Last time the Cards faced Umberger it was 37 degrees in Toledo. I like the Cards chances in this one.

BSU has 10 hits and 8 LOBs in 4 innings. Way too many being left on. BSU needs a big lead to carry them through their reliever woes.
Toledo has a habit of rallying late.

Bottom of 7 - Hallquist adds an HR. BSU up 3-1.
Beeker has only given up 1 hit, but 2 HBPs & 2 BBs. He has only thrown 82 pitches thru 7. Very efficient.
Might be able to go distance, but wouldn't be surprised if Klein comes in to close.

Nice effort by Merritt Beeker. 12ks, 1 H on 107 pitches in a complete game.
BSU wins 5-1. Will play WMU tomorrow afternoon.

Well, you’re right AZ, but I’ve never seen a bracket set up where you don’t just move on.
We just kinda dropped from one bracket to another.
I understand it, but it sure looks weird.

It's not really abnormal. Our game and the Miami/ Kent game are kind of like play-in games to play the #1 and #2 seeds who got byes to the second round so to speak. We play WMU, the 2 seed, as the lowest seed to advance in the first round. Man, if Johnson can give us extended innings in a win like Beeker did today, our odds go up a lot of pulling this thing off. It would be really nice to save Blain to be the game 3 starter. |

"The lowest seed to advance from games four & five will play in a game six (e.g. low is 6 seed) and the higher seed to advance from games four and five (e.g., high is 1 seed) will play in game 7. However, if No. 1 and No. 2 seeds both lose in games four and five, they will play each other in Game 6 with the advancing team facing the winner of game 3 in game 7. Exception: if one of the game 4 or 5 losers already has had a bye, that team will play in Game 6 regardless of seed"
