I agree with the article that last years record was used to place us 9th. We had major shuffling of the lineup with the portal creating a bunch of unanswered questions. Semonza? Rogers? and many who have never played a down for BSU. Hope springs eternal.

They could have put us in 11th as long as kent is in last and I would have no problem with it.. We are completely unknown and were not very good last year so I get it...
Oddly I feel slightly optimistic than we will not suck at the level many expect.. Now Im not at all saying we can win a championship but if we get lucky we could maybe get to six.. That would be a major accomplishment but I still think the magic number for Mike is 7 maybe a really strong 6 saves him

Any optimism I might muster is related to the possibility that Lynch will do less harm as assistant HC than he did as OC, that Elliott has a clue as the new OC, and that Knowles can be serviceable as DC.

Our schedule is not friendly for the team or fans. After the opener vs. MoState, we have roadies in 4 of the next 5. Two of our five home games are in November. If Semonza emerges as a real star it could change a lot but if he is just average? Our running game has no bell cow for the first time in years. The defense is unknown everywhere except LB. Where are six or seven wins?

Our running game has no bell cow for the first time in years. Pemberton is back and has shown moments of being effective, but has yet to be consistent(injuries & bench). The EKU transfer, Braedon Sloan, had 1200+ rush/pass yards last season at EKU. Hope that translates to 900-1000 in the MAC. Perhaps Kiael Kelly still gets to see some Wildcat offense situation, and Spegal becomes that short yardage option (and/or diversion).

How come we fans can see what we need to do and the staff hasn't been able to. Kelly and Spegal, from the above, are givens as far as I'm concerned. I still say ya line up a couple of backs in the short situations and at least make there a choice for the defense to have to tackle.

I saw Semonza in HS living in OC; he should be very good I believe right out of the gate.
This edition of the Cards with a solid offensive line will score points but will our defense hold up...to me that's the big question mark.

9th almost feels generous. Depending on what kind of players Pete has to work with at UB, he'd clean Neu's clock in terms of schemes, using players, and in-game decisions. That lumps us in with Akron and Kent at the bottom - about what I'd expect.

That lumps us in with Akron and Kent at the bottom - about what I'd expect. This should be the year Akron turns it around (excluding the 3 built in losses against the P5/4 schools). I thought it would be last year, but Irons wasn’t 100% coming into the season and the Zips fate was officially sealed once he went down. The talent level has dramatically increased - already 6 All-MAC players from the 2022 class alone. 13 one score games in two years with only 3 of those being wins. That’s tough. All that said, 4 wins in two years does not deserve a higher preseason ranking. I’d expect Buffalo and Kent to be battling it out for the bottom. It could come down to the last game of the season between those two on who gets a conference win. Buffalo has holes everywhere as Lembo decided to take the same approach Beamer did at South Carolina and attempt to keep the majority of the roster in place. He did make some wholesale specialist changes though. Kent is young at most positions on both sides of the ball. I do think it’s only a matter of time before Buffalo gets it turned around. Lembo already has some talented players committed for the 2025 class. If the preseason predictions are correct, finding 6 to 7 wins is a tall ask. Who knows though, if this staff gets the most of the available talent, it can be done.

Hard to have faith Neu will be able to do anything to save his job. I like Mike on a personal level and he's an All Time great Cardinal QB, but as a head coach he just has not gotten it done. I don't see any reason why this season would be any different. It'll be sad but I anticipate Mike will be removed the day after the last game. It doesn't feel great but it'll be very necessary.
(man I hope I'm wrong. More wrong than usual)
