I havent seen any lines on Georgia State. Should we be favorites? Anyone know what to expect?

Just grabbed some info from their website:
Second year under HC Jonas Hayes, 10-21 last year.
Of the 16-17 players listed on this year's roster, I think only 4-5 were there last year.
Had an an exhibition against USC Beaufort, which they won 100-88. Only played 8 for significant time in that game.
Starters:
Toneari Lane, 6-5 guard, Sr. The notable returner from last year's team. Averaged 13.3 ppg last year
Zarique Nutter, 6-7 foward, Sr. A transfer from Northern Ill. Averaged 15.4 ppg and 5.7 rpg past 2 years there, and those are about the exact averages he put up against us in 3 games over that time.
Cesare Edwards, 6-10 center, Sr. Transfer from Missouri State. 7.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg last year
Nick McMullen, 6-8 forward, Sr. Transfer from UNC Asheville. 9 ppg and 4.1 rpg last year
Darnell Evans, 6.0 guard, Sr. Transfer from Div. II Caldwell where he averaged 23.5 ppg
Others:
Malik Ferguson, 6-4 guard, So. Another returner from last year. 7.7 mpg, 4.4 ppg last year
Jelani Hamilton, 6-6 guard, Rs-Fr. A four-star recruit on Rivals, 3 star on ESPN and 247
Malachi Brown, 6-1 guard, So.
In the exhibition, Lane, Nutter and Edwards all had 20+ points and 7+ rebounds. The three "other" players listed all came off the bench and played and scored more than did Evans.

Anyone going? I live in the Atlanta area and plan to go, even though Ga. State is in an absolutely terrible part of town.

Bart Torvik has GSt a bit stronger, and at home. That seems to be the consensus preseason.
That conference seems stronger than the MAC with GSt and BSU both preseason at or below the middle of the pack.
OTOH, when you look under the hood at the basis, his player projections, he seems to project Sparks for for 6pts and 4 rebounds a game based on last year, with a fairly low usage rate.
I suspect that is the way most models preseason will be in error. Here's the MAC preseason projection.

But even if we are a little under rated, Lewis doesn't seem too happy about defense. Both teams have newcomers, they did play theirs more in their exhibition apparently trying o build cohesion.

No start for Hart- Lewis on podcast the other day said he missed 6 weeks of practice. Not sure of injury

Sparks a little out of shape? Yeah and I don’t understand how. Slow as molasses and doughy. Today this team is horrendous, but I’ll wait to see what we look like in December. |

Appearance of better depth so far. Not really equating to points differential though. Watts looks athletic. Pretty sloppy overall game 1 so far.

Sparks has 7 rebounds but man he looks slow, awkward, and not in the offensive flow. Disappointing so far in his return.
