Spitfire is the tits when it comes to WWII planes my favorite plane of all time remains the B-12 though I gotta go with the F4U Corsair. The unique bent wings, huge prop, massive engine power, and carrier take-off and landing capability made it the aircraft of choice in the Pacific theater. It took a skilled pilot to handle the torque when throttling up, but it's hard to argue with an 11:1 kill ratio. Fast, with six .50 cal Browning machine guns, and good bomb payload, that thing was arguably the best all-around fighter of the time. |

I already have the uneasy feeling that random, tangential topics are more interesting and a needed respite from pondering the details of a disappointing basketball season, as they have been for 20+ years now. Hopefully this is an early and mistaken impression. We talk best places to eat in Dayton and best WW2 fighter planes (Spitfire for dogfighting, P-51 Mustang for range and toughness of course) while the Dayton board discusses how much they’ll win by tonight. Most posters over there think 10-20 range. Well, if they were coming to Muncie, I'm sure they'd be all atwitter about the Bob Ross Experience and the relative merits of "majestic mountains" vs. "happy little trees." |
