Sounds like Whit agrees with a lot of what some of us "Debbie Downers" have been saying. Next year is put up or shut out time and he knows that. Its great that acknowledges that and is setting the bar high

Everyone here has said the bar must be raised and this class is important to future success. It's just some of us actually feel it's going to happen.

My opinion, this team will be better next year and the bar raised even more as that happens. Some will always say we did not do well enough. That usually accompanies a charge of "lame excuses" for "failure." We heard enough of that his year that I am resigned to hearing the same thing next year, whatever it is we do accomplish. I see no reason to start that with the rhetoric now or start a big argument. Let's leave something to talk about next Fall.

I think this class is important but not in the make or break category, unless we fail to add some depth, and what we need to be better is not really very much. We have two talented players coming off red shirt and most everyone will be a little bigger and better. I have thought we would add some good talent, and maybe quite good yet this year, but I don't think we bring in a new starter for next year in this class, for example. We have enough returning talent to make that a little unlikely. The bar is higher and we will be better. Probably not enough to please everyone, but that is situation normal...

IMO by that point in whits tenure we should be competing near the top of the MAC and making a deep run in Cleveland.

Yes, normal for a program that hasn't been relevant for 16 years and four coaches.
Also normal over this time period were delusional posters claiming to see all sorts of positive signs...none of which led to anything at all.

So we could think this was all the same... But would that not be an assumption. What is the evidence that this is the same and what shows anything different? For example, did we ever have a year where we improved as much as we did this year and had as much talent returning? Have we had a team with a coach that is actually improving with experience in that period? I would count a 20 win season with a team that has 4 scholarships, a good record to sell to recruits next year, and so much returning as something different.
