I've heard from some friends at BSU that the University imposed new tailgate rules that have "ruined" tailgate. I also read on TSP that student tailgate attendance for Kent and WKU were awful. Is there any truth to this?

I know the frats are pissed.. I read something about amplified music. It got to the point that the frats were basically hiring djs to come out. I did not have a problem with it but lots of normal people were upset about the cursing etc. It was getting pretty wild

Yep frats have basically said screw you, we’ll just party at our houses instead. Essentially a boycott. They feel the new rules target them so they quit going.

Ball State has added a number of stupid rules. You can not leave the stadium and return. You can not bring your own stadium seat, must rent one of theirs for $10. I hate stupid rules and these are stupid! I say this as a forty plus year season ticket holder. Ball State needs to become more fan friendly, just serving beer doesn’t put butts in seats. Very disappointing.

Bsu has always been clumsy like that. Instead of finding more ways to get people to come out we find ways to keep them away. Combine that with an on the field product that does not interest people and you get poor attendance and dead atmosphere. Only us die hards keep going.

Wow, that's crazy. Tailgates are usually the one thing we have going for us.
I was reading TSP article where the AD said she wasn't aware of any new tailgate policies, but that they added one more beer cart in the stadium.
So, is she just ignorant as to what's going on or lying out of her ass?

When a reporter asks you a question, and you don't know the answer, you say, "We're looking into it, and I'll get back to you." Now she looks like she's out of the loop. Not good when you're the boss.

Ive heard she is really good. This amplified music thing was not openly discussed anywhere. I found it once in some rules in small print.. It did basically target the frats as cardfan said. The Tail gate lot still remains pretty full but the first few rows have been much less "crazy" Like I said it never bothered me but it did bother a lot of people. Some one even posted about the music on here maybe last year.

Not related to the tailgating but the gameday experience is seriously lacking as a whole.
A few years back I was walking around the aluminum bleachers and I pointed at the entryway to get to the nice paved walkway in front of the bleachers and commented to my friend I wondered why they did all that work to make that look nice but then had security guards preventing anyone from walking down there. One of the security guards saw me point his direction and he started walking towards us. He came up to me and insisted that I empty my pockets. I assume he was checking for beer or something, but I was pretty furious.
I've only been back for a game or two since then.

I had plenty of arguments with them during my times as an undergrad

Frozen and I have run ins with yellow shirts the last couple years.. They do not want the kids playing on the hill. I get it if the hill is full but most of the time it is not. Too strict there.. The nice pathway Jackson mentions also pisses me off. They will not let you enter and go up the blachers. You must enter from the backside and go all the way down.. You like what I did there

I had plenty of arguments with them during my times as an undergrad Back in the day - mid 70's - I had no trouble smuggling alcohol in. The one time I was stopped was when I walked in flaunting a canteen filled with an adult cocktail. They made me pour it out. Fortunately, my friend was not so conspicuous. Why one time I was able to smuggle in a Hamm's aluminum tapper in my backpack. Made the games more tolerable.

As someone who worked at football and basketball games in the 90’s/early 2000’s (glory days) even I have felt the security peeps can go too far. You really do sometimes get a feeling of “you’re not welcome here” at bsu Athletic events. Yes, definitely need a security presence anymore, but damn, shooing people away from areas that otherwise go unused? Not letting kids play on the hill when it’s empty? Etc etc. Like I said, bsu seems to work harder at turning people off then getting them excited about coming.

Unless he could provide a good reason to search you, they don't have that right.

But by the time I was in my seat I was so angry I didn't even pay much attention to the first half.
