Ive been catching up with the DVR.. Trick or treating was fun.. This game while a complete mess was actually fun to watch lol.. Say what you want about Plitt he came out and played hard and aggressive.. He has something it is not "it" but I think he has a whole bunch of I dont give a shit lets do this.. He would likely lose as many games as he would win but the offense actually was something. Not sure what but it was something other than horizontal.. Tyler made some plays, Hall looked like Hall of last year.. What about Will JOnes kid is nothing but he just took the ball and ran. No pussy footing around just ran it, Yea we sucked but it did not look like we had quit. I guess it could have been worse

I want to see the final two games of the season with either Plitt or Paddock under center.
If the offense looks somewhat like it did tonight (with fewer TOs would be nice), I might be willing to give Joey and Mike a pass on some of our offensive play-calling.
But if things play out kinda like they did tonight, what I'm likely NOT inclined to give them a pass on would be the possibility that they started the wrong QB for the first 9 games of the season. That ... and for not lighting a fire under the asses of some of our incumbents.

I thought they came ready to play now all they have to do is cut the penalties in half & the turnovers out.

Not a big deal to me, but it was kind of strange that Toledo didn't take a knee at the end of the game. Not something you see very often.

It was too early to take a knee. They couldn’t have run the clock all the way. It’s not like they were throwing every play (although I wouldn’t care if they did) so I don’t see the problem.

Tonights game felt like a controlled panic if that makes sense. It just seems like there was a whole bunch of f,, it going on. Like Mike and Joey got together and said well if we are done lets have some fun before we die.
The only other explanation is those routes are in the normal plays but Riley does not like them. Riley says Im taking the quick out... Plitt says the hell with it and takes the deeper route. We need Rileys talent with Plitts attitude

It felt like we know we are going down so let’s just throw out the play book and do crazy stuff and see what happens.

This was something like what we could expect.
The worst was not true, that the team wouldn't show up.
The play was predictably poor...with a lot of unforced error and bonehead play that probably had to be expected. But the real difference was the questions from day 1. How much depth and talent did we have, and did we have a QB.
No answers. The new kids playing looked OK, but no difference maker surprise either. The QB question will continue another off season it appears.
A couple of games to show us something but I saw no big negative or positive here.

Ok Ive been holding back but Im going to say it cause I feel like some of you want too as well
First off Riley is the most Talented Qb on the team but I think he might just be to aww shucks to really lead a team. It seems like he would rather throw the quick out or take off running. I get not wanting to throw picks you can not do that but I feel like our offense would be better if he did take some chances. I am really trying not to say he kinda plays like a pus but he kinda plays like a pus. Maybe the staff needs to push Riley to be more plitt like. We do not need him to go full plitt but maybe like half plitt

We do not need him to go full plitt but maybe like half plitt I'm sorry, but Riley has had four years to change or develop and he hasn't. He had most of last year to watch what Milas and Plitt did and didn't do - the good and the bad - and learn from it, and apparently didn't. The coaching staff has had 3 years to teach, to develop, to coach Riley up and make him better ... and it hasn't succeeded. You've mentioned in the past that Plitt holds the ball too long. I think maybe Riley gets rid of the ball too fast. I know there have been points in this season where receivers were going to come open on deeper routes and Riley wouldn't hold the ball that long. He'd either dump it off on his typical sideline pass or take off running. The thing about Riley is that, man he looks the part and, quite frankly, Plitt doesn't. He's not as athletic, not the runner, doesn't have the arm. You want to believe Riley is going to get it, that he's going to come around and start playing as good as he looks. But 4 years. How much longer do you invest when your return has been very limited. Let's spend some time on Plitt or Paddock (and whatever QBs make it to campus next fall), trying to get them to take what skills they have, and maybe take what they can from Neal. Maybe they won't have his size or arm or running ability, but maybe they don't need it. And maybe they've got something he doesn't have, and never will. I think it's probably easier to instill a little caution in someone who might be a little too aggressive than it is to instill guts or bravado in someone who just doesn't have it.

After tonight I think I had it wrong in the ''letter'' I wrote to Neu before the Ohio game. Maybe Neu was playing the wrong QB. Could be our problem with the offense was Neal's attitude of taking the easy way out by just throwing the ball short most of the time. This game has raised more questions than it has answered. I have no idea about what to do now. I think if I had the power I would take a weekend sabbatical to French Lick contemplate all the options drive back to Muncie and flip a coin.

I think it's probably easier to instill a little caution in someone who might be a little too aggressive than it is to instill guts or bravado in someone who just doesn't have it. Exactly. Riley is a freaking stud physically but has always left us thinking “is that it?” He was very aggressive as a freshman and took chances and then I swear Lembo put the brakes on after his first 3-4 games and he hasn’t been the same since. He made plays vs Texas A and M and Northwesten and then lead the comeback vs emu then put up huge numbers vs niu that season and then boom, was suddenly really timid and played horizontally after that. He got dialed back and that’s what we’ve seen since then. He’s had occasional bursts but not consistently. Plitt isn’t near the talent but when he’s been out there he hasn’t been afraid to push it downfield and we just don’t see that with Riley. The question becomes, is that by design or is Riley limited in what we can call for him? Or Maybe Neu/lynch haven’t put the best game plans around Riley’s talent? Square peg round hole? I don’t know but these last two games (maybe the last of Neu’s tenure) are a chance to experiment with Plitt and paddock. But I don’t know that mike will play paddock.
