I don't think comparing Ball State and Ohio is comparing apples to apples. The MAC East has been pathetically weak in recent years. Lembo's teams are 9-3 vs MAC East opponents. If we had played in the MAC East during the same time Solich has been at OU we'd have a better record, more division championships, and more bowl games too.
Solich is 9-16 vs. MAC West in his time at OU and 5 of the 9 wins are against Eastern Michigan! He is 1-4 vs Ball State.

The West division has been by far the tougher of the two. That said, it's on Pete to keep up with the Joneses in our division and he isn't. He's falling behind.

I do not see this team getting to 6 wins with the remaining schedule.

Not without earth shattering improvement in all phases.

I happened to catch a little bit cardinal talk on 1040 today and they had the 2 new beat writers from the star press today leading the show. It was the first time I had actually heard any one with media credentials actually be critical of BSU. They basically echoed the sentiments of most of us on this board. They commented on how bad the D was and how Vanilla the play calling had been. There was also a great interview with Willie it was actually a pretty good show today

Lembo knows what the problems are. We will see if he takes some steps to address them.

They actually addressed that and one of them said they had asked Lembo a question about the D and his response was that they(coaches) had known from spring camp that the offense was going to have to carry the team. Lembo basically admitted the D was bad but it was too late in the season too make any drastic schematic changes.

It's crazy to think I used to give Jay Bateman a hard time for the bend don't break defense. The Joey Lynch and Kevin Kelly coaching experiment has come to an end.

Another thing I just remembered one of them said they felt the staff took to long to address and make needed changes.. I really think one or even both must be lurking/posting on here.

It is a very slow reacting staff. Starts at the top. Just like it took far too many losses last year to make the move to Milas. A telling quote in the paper by Pete: "something is off in the secondary but I can't put my thumb on it." He can't?

Actually I don't think it is the players (in the secondary). I think it is how they are being utilized.

Actually I don't think it is the players (in the secondary). I think it is how they are being utilized. I also think it's mostly how they're being utilized. We are just far too easy to pass against. I'm hoping Pete will recognize that and make some changes. Can't make plays 10 yards off the ball and never looking back for the ball when it's in the air. The scheme and the technique appear to be bad. That's on the DB coach and the D- Coord. The play of the safeties has been atrocious. Hard to believe we don't have someone better than Hester back there. We have nothing to lose at this point; have the kids be aggressive out there and see what they can do. We play soft to not get beat over the top, and yet get beat over the top....... (it would also be nice if we'd blitz more often rather than just sit back and get picked apart)

I agree with the two previous posts. I'd just like to see our defenders get within 5 yards and bump a receiver at the line of scrimmage. Maybe get them off their rhythm enough to foil a timing pattern. Give receivers 5 unimpeded yards and they’re enabled to go wherever they want . . . and do!
