Coaching wasn’t bad most of the game, but yes coaching almost cost us the game at the end. Not a bad day for Neu, but not going to keep him off the warm seat.

Was the coaching really that bad? Yes. Snapping with 15+ seconds left less than 5 minutes left in game. . Getting a delay of game coming out of a timeout. You wanted to pull your hair out. Yeah, the end of the game could have been managed better. I put some of that on Plitt though. He should know with the lead late that you let the play clock go all the way down.

Agreed, but my argument is that is coaching.

Yes that’s on the qb there. Needs to be savvier than that.

On 4th and 4, we had three choices, two that could have ended the game if they worked and one that would have given EMU a chance either way.
1) Field goal makes it a two-score game, essentially ending it.
2) First down ends the game (EMU was out of timeouts).
3) Punting gives them the ball back and only works if it's downed just short of the end zone. It wasn't, and ended up basically being a 13 yard punt after we took a delay of game to try and give the punter more room (at least I hope that was the reason; I can't imagine how else you get delay of game coming after a timeout).
Obviously a field goal might miss, and a fourth down play may come up short. Either of those give EMU the ball back, but either play at least has a chance of winning the game if executed correctly.
Mike Neu chose the one option that gave EMU a chance regardless of how it unfolded.

Regardless of the delay of game, it was widely believed that the kid was going to punt it in the end zone, a net of 8 yards. One could suggest hindsight, but c’mon. Go for it or kick the field goal. They were scrambling like numbnuts.

Definitely wouldn’t have tried the field goal. I would give our kicker a 30% chance with the wind into consideration. They were going for it, but the delay screwed that up. The delay of game was inexcusable, but after that I think the punt was the right call. Better execution on the punt and you can make it really tough on Eastern. I’ve been critical of Neu on in game decisions, but today wasn’t awful. Anyways, it’s nice to have complaints after a win instead of a demoralizing loss.

The only thing I didn’t want to see is a prevent defense, why give the other side basically 4-5 plays and end up within range of jump ball to a 6’4” WR over a 5’10” DB. Be aggressive all the way, maybe Help the clock keep ticking. Good win, good couple weeks, believe with both wins happening on the road will really help gel this team & give them some confidence to believe they can play above they’re level when they’re gonna need to. Tough games ahead, Go Cards!!!

Ok with our finances and our play so far I gotta think that 4 and deff 5 wins is going to get Neu and extension. My thought is this should we extend him immediately after the 4th win. If we were to do this it might help and or even stregthen next years recruting class. It would remove the lame duck stigma that is currenlty going on... Thoughts

IMHO the AD must have a target number of wins and/or milestones for progress, if/when they are reached announce an extension ASAP. We need to let the recruits know what our plans are. If we extend we need to show the recruits we are on the upswing with a successful program, a stable coaching situation, new indoor facility, etc.

I think if we play Toledo close and get the 4th the next game I agree. If we takedown the Rockets, then yes at that point. If we get blasted the next two, then he needs a 2 game win streak and 5 wins for the extension.
