Penix is not the passing threat like we faced last year. He only threw 34 balls last year but is a threat with his ability to scramble. I prefer that situation and feel it is much like the QB situation we faced against Notre Dame last year IMO. I think you may be selling him short on the passing game. Remember that he was not the starting QB last year and he got injured. With a full year and health, I’m sure he’ll have much bigger and better numbers. I think he will be more of a passing threat than Ramsey because he can throw down field for big plays. Ramsey dink and dunked us to death. They both are running threats. I don’t see the IU QB situation at all the same as ND last year. We can certainly hope Penix Jr. is wildly inaccurate, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Penix is purported to have future NFL talent. Not sure why we want to predetermine him as the guy we’d rather face. He won the starting job over a veteran for a reason.

He’s the highest rated QB, that IU has ever landed. People in the know said that he was so dominate in the team scrimmage that they had to end the QB race. The guy has an absolute cannon for an arm.

So.....you’re telling me he’s not a scrambler. There’s still a chance.
Cardinals are at their best when playing on a turf field......indoors, and against cannon arms. I looked it up.
Playing inside reminds Neu of Arena football. That’s where his strategery shines!

Depth chart for IU is out A couple things that stand out.. There is a pretty decent number of true freshman on the two deep Someone asked about Hurt he is not on three deep but is also not injured as he shows up as a back up punt returner Biggest surprise is Uzodinma who started the final few games of last year as a freshman got beat out by RS/FR Red Potts. I thought Uzodinma played really well so hopefully Potts just killed it and we actually have some depth with talented players at corner ballstatesports.com/documents/2019/8/26//190831IU.pdf?id=12160

I figure he’ll still get a lot of playing time.

I remember people were excited to get Potts a few years ago. It’s good to hear that he is climbing the depth chart.

I think Penix will give us some major problems. He can run out of the pocket. That is something Ramsey could never do on us.

I was surprised to see Brandon Martin ahead of Jaylin Thomas on the depth chart.

I have no delusions of beating IU, but I would like to see an overall improvement in quality of play and execution and a better plan from the staff. And not collapsing after IU puts a couple TD’s on us early. And for gosh sakes better special teams.
I just want to feel like the program is turning back around even if we get hammered. We’ll be able to tell the difference in how we play and react and what our attitude and confidence look like. Are we sharper and more mature? Is the game plan more cohesive? Is the secondary still giving up the same big plays we’ve seen the last 3 years or do they finally look like they know what they’re doing back there. Are we well prepared and have energy?
Those are the things I’m looking for regardless of what Iu does to us. If we display those qualities we might have a shot during the conference season.

I was surprised to see Brandon Martin ahead of Jaylin Thomas on the depth chart. I kinda was as well but we rotate so much we will see a lot of thomas. Martin is a better at fundamentals but Thomas is better at the spectacular play
