NIT or NCAA bid and I would support a serious extension, albeit I think odds of both are well under 15% given his tenure to date. Winning MAC record + MAC semis or finals but no NIT/NCAA and I am ok with retaining but would prefer to not give a huge extension.
Any season at all like last 2 where they collapse in conference play and Im more than ready to move on although unfortunately I doubt administration feels same unless they have a yr that ends like last yr without a comparable nonconference performance.

Cardfan, your post sounds like someone that may work or has worked in the athletic dept

Whit ain’t going no where. The administration doesn’t care about winning that much. Even if Beth feels a change is needed. CF - who do you mean when you say "administration" is it the President, which as changed a few times since we've been bad in sports so all of them didn't/don't support BB and FB? Or are you referring to the BOT which makes more sense to me especially since most of them have been around for while? Regardless, why does the administration not care that much about men's BB and FB? Why are these two men's sports, that if supported correctly, have the potential to bring in more donor money? I'm not challenging your post but I've always wondered who it is behind the curtain moving the switches that keep BSU from moving forward in a big way with men's sports?

And to add to my comments above, I was talking with a big Wisconsin alumni/fan and we were talking about the horrible history of Ball State sports i.e. Never won a bowl game and rarely even goes to a bowl game and the year in and year out flop in basketball and he said it's like Ball State doesn't want to really win and is one of those schools that sports will never really be good. Humbling and sad really.

Humbling and sad really. Pretty much. Just listen to what the prez and ad say and how they say it when they say it. There will be some virtue signaling and talk of values and all that and less talk of actually winning. We win “enough”.

No, I just have been paying attention for a long time. You hear mearns sound so enamored with Mike Neu after he thanked the band after the Wmu game. It was clear mearns is more about good feelings than wins. We’ll hear the same type of stuff about Whitford. “Culture,”. “Good kids/students”. And they’ll talk about how we’re “competitive” and any other thing similar to that other than actually winning something.

But we've been bad for a long, long time and Mears has only been around for a year or two. So all of the presidents going back for 25 years haven't supported these two sports? To me this reflects on the BOTs as they are the ones hiring the prez. They're selecting presidents that do not support the sports? The Governor of course appoints the BOTs so, well I don't know where this starts but it's starting to look like the definition ofinsanity to me.

Money.
University budget and athletics at a low level in MAC. I'll defend a lot of decision making as quite reason able under that budget constraint.
But, even factoring in BOT, state funding, and demographic decline in our market, we are painfully aware of course that there have been some bonehead errors. Expensive errors.
We have no margin for error. And when even some good decisions have gone wrong along with notable bloopers, it's been hard to recover from them.

We are dead last as a Group of Five conference in football - even schools that are new to football are kicking MAC ass. We haven’t had two teams to the dance in years. The MAC has settled into just getting by and playing the game for the fun of it. Losing is not fun! You can’t build a fan base when you have one winning season every few years/decades. Nobody wants to associate with a loser. Look at the people who wear IU shirts to a Ball State football game. Unless we get serious about athletics, we need to drop down a division and win a few more games. Sorry, tired of losing seasons but will always bleed Cardinal & White. I sing the fight song when the band plays it, people around me are astonished that I know the he words. WOW!

I'd either stay-put or cancel football completely. It'll be a lot easier finding a new conference without football.

Very comforting to know we will continue to suck because, budget.

Very comforting to know we will continue to suck because, budget. It's not all about the budget, it has more to do with bad decisions and an unprofessional workplace where accountability takes a backseat.

The question is, will we do it proactively, or will we be forced to do it? Sadly, I think we all know the answer.
