He is not the Big we have been promised! In fact after reading the article in the Star Press about our new guard, Whitford sure does not sound like a coach who has another signee waiting in the wings. In fact, it sounds like they are still looking and hoping one falls into our laps. So you would or would not have signed the Finn?
The MAC doesn't look all that scary in terms of big men, but that is our biggest question mark.
I would guess you are right about the sure thing waiting in the wings, but I am not quite as concerned as you are. It appears to me the staff is working available options and the article says they expect to have a signing. So it is more than just hoping something falls into our laps. Saying that doesn't give them credit.

Some never give the staff credit....the fact is the two transfers should be good MAC players...one already was.....he killed us one game as a Sophomore, and the other played on a top 10 program with three years remaining, and he also played for a very strong HS program and was All State. The Finland kid shot very well from the field and 3 point line which I don't think anyone has credited, and the ones that generally never credit still won't. I don't know what they're going to say if we land a good big or for that matter Hendricks proves to be a skilled player.

Because every year we hear about how good this kid or that kid might be but the reality of it is we have yet to get the kid who puts us over the top and wins us a championship. Ill give the staff credit for making us competitive but competitive does not work for ever

I am not saying the kid from Finland is a bad signing. Quite honestly, we won't have any idea how good this kid is until he steps on the floor. I want to see, in person, his game speed and his ability to create against MAC level competition. The film that is available is not going to tell us anything one way or another on this kid's ability. He looks to have a consistent stroke and he showed he can use both hands going to the basket at top gear. That's good but other than that, the jury will be out until he actually plays a game. No, my comment was pointed at those who keep saying that we WILL be signing a good step in and play quality big player. The article sure makes it sound as if there is nothing imminent. Just saying!

Well since we could not land a PG through traditional routes and we really needed one sure you sign him. Personally I am kinda intrigued but with a kid like this no one can say he is good or bad because we really have no reference point to compare. What we do know is that 99% of all euros play zero D so that will be an issue but you can learn to play D its all effort. How soon He can play at least a little D is the question

I’ve said a million times all I care about is championships, so yeah I don't give Whit credit. But if he wins a championship I will give him credit.

Jackson Street you are entitled to that view shared by some others!
You know even though my daughter that played collegiality didn’t win MVP, or the title in 4 years I still gave her credit for her play, extra work she put in, etc. In my way of viewing it I thought of it as encouragement or credit for good plays, wins, etc
It’s a different way of motivating but it doesn’t say I don’t want to win but not at any cost

Fair to evaluate results. Also easy to disagree about recruits.
Not fair to call out the staff as lazy.
Or ignore some good players, denigrating them as failures due to 20 years of past history that frustrates us.

He hasn’t won a championship for certain and neither did my daughter as I mentioned but he has had some good wins over ND, GT, etc and has recruited some very good players like Teague, Persons, etc so I give the staff credit for that work! Very simple to understand my position and yours!
Jackson Street, I’m not saying your wrong just I see it differently

Because I think this is one of you typical dishonest straw man tactics to keep bringing that up.
Many of us have noted that WHITFORD appears to have a distaste for recruiting and avoids it when he can get away with it.
But I want you to point out where posters "call out the staff as lazy." Otherwise maybe you should STFU about that. For all I know, we have the hardest working assistants in the history of basketball. But if so, their efforts are seriously hampered by the head man being a low-horsepower recruiter.

Very simple to understand my position and yours! Jackson Street, I’m not saying your wrong just I see it differently I’m actually not sure what your position is. The Notre Dame win was freaking awesome. I was jumping around my living room and talking trash to my ND alum buddy. The next day I basically didn't work because I was so stoked. Persons and Teague were good players. I give Whit credit for the signature win and having a few good recruits. So unless your position is a couple wins against name opponents and a few good recruits is “good enough” I don't know what you’re saying. If that’s your position you shouldn’t say we don’t give Whit credit, you should join the most negative member of the board, 00, and say wanting championships is unreasonably greedy.

There are numerous posts calling our recruiting lazy. I have never seen that. Whitford is not lazy, or any other member of the staff.

Distaste for recruiting and avoiding it is not suggesting the staff is lazy? Okay, certainly you must be right General! And, you are very cute General to tell me to shut the fuck up....thats low class shit given the posts I've made which were not personally attacking anyone!!!!
My position is very clear...when something good or reasonably good happens whether its a win, or a recruit, etc. I choose to give staff or whomever credit! Pretty simple.
