Sherm, a question from someone who doesn't really care about this debate. What would it take from Quenton Nelson's career for you to consider him the correct pick? 10x Pro Bowl, 8x All Pro, 15 year career, etc. etc. etc.? I'm just curious. It's difficult to say because guard is such a low impact position. And the facts say Nelson hasn't had much impact. The colts added Nelson to a bad line and still had a bad line. Then they added some decent tackles and have a good line. The implications of this don't seem to me to be very hard to understand, but people just give Nelson the credit because they know of him because of him being the 6th pick. It's amusing and easy to smack around the people who regurgitate this hype. Nelson is probably an good guard. I don't watch enough tape to really know and neither does anyone here or 99.9% of the people currently singing Nelson's praises. There is tape of him knocking people down, and tape of people running right around him. The main thing I've taken away from the tape I've seen is that there is no way in hell he could be a tackle. He is limited to guard. But I can see the lack of impact compared to the tackles. If you read the articles about the rookie of the month, all they talk about is the improvement in the colts line as a whole....but again, because of the timing, it simply doesn't make sense to credit that to Nelson. Hell, it makes more sense to credit it to Glowinski. But really it was the tackles. The line getting suddenly better with the addition of Glowinski was primarily a coincidence. Braden Smith, on the other hand, should probably be getting the credit that is going to the more well-known Nelson. Smith competently filling the right tackle spot was HUGE for the colts and great use of a 2nd round pick....as it turns out, but I don't think Ballard intended it that way. Not sure how accurately Pro Bowls reflect performance. I know it's a popularity contest to some extent. I guess what would impress me most is the overall performance of the line rising and falling according to Nelson's presence or absence. Injuries being as prevalent as they are, we will probably get more data on this as time goes on.

Luck is really getting protection and has been sacked very few times but that’s likely not reflective of improved offensive line play inclusive of Nelson! ? And, yes to your point we have been better with Nelson’s presence. Hello come in.

It is not the same game as it once was, is it? Some of it I get. Protecting receivers and QB's from injury is part of it. Both very vulnerable to concussion. And the DB's, too I suppose. Plus, of course, easier passing offense increases scoring, and especially the dramatic comebacks and late scoring drives fueled by the pass. Obviously good entertainment and great TV highlights. That's show biz, I guess. And economics.

The choreographed "celebrations" make me want to vomit. That element has certainly taken over the NFL.

We just don't understand the creative element that is entering the game...

I dream of seeing some fed up old school player get about a 30 yard running start and just light up one of those jackasses in the middle of their moronic, preening, look-at-me dance routine
Guy would face some consequences, to be sure, but would become an instant legend and folk hero
