It's just too bad we have to play Mallers so much. A guy who will never be a MAC starter, can't play offense, and is a wasted scholarship. Oh wait a minute, I just looked at the box score. Yeah show me a single post where you predicted he would completely reinvent himself as a go to the bucket slasher. Then I'll show you over 100 posts where you were completely wrong about a recruits skill set. I would not call him a slasher now. I described him as active, having a nose for the ball, a threat to shoot outside which would draw defenders to him (which is now giving him a chance to drive) and predicted he would be a solid MAC starter. Most important, on a go, no go decision basis, you would have let him go. My description of players I have actually seen play and talked to our coaches about has been very reliable. In contrast with knee jerk disdain for almost every recruit mentioned which is your default...

"described him as active, having a nose for the ball, a threat to shoot outside which would draw defenders to him" Really, you said that last season ? I sure as hell don't remember that ! When did I ever say I would "let him go", the worst thing I ever said about Mallers was "he may not be a projected future starter". Sure "reliable", let us know when Gunn becomes an "elite shooter".

Reality Check...I agree with most of your post but I imagine IF Coaches or fans overall picked MVP to date it would be Persons...lets not forget he's our leading scorer and won the game on last second shots vs ND and Valpo

Just saying that Mallers does so many things for us both tangible and intangible that without him we would likely not be 10-4. If I'm picking MVP over the past five games it's Mallers hands down. Regardless, they are both invaluable. If we are picking nits, I would disagree with your assessment that Tyler is our best on ball defender. He is our worst, IMO. I think Kiapway is our best followed closely by TP. Tyler is athletic and explosive and a playmaker but a good defender he is not.

I love the play of Sean Sellers since the ND game. At times in his career he seemed uninterested and unmotivated but he has reinvented himself, playing aggressively and with enthusiasm. Go #34.

Mallers is the most improved player this year hands down. I also think Moses is too soft but he did play a better second half against EMU. Would love him to finish at the rim though. I would also like to see Teague take more jumpers. For sure the zone slowed Persons down, but IMO he hasn't been himself since that knock in the face. Regardless, we have to keep winning especially at home.

We see Tyler differently! But, why do you think Tyler is often guarding PG late in games?

Tyler had been given increasing responsibility on defense, often guards best outside scorer.
He is much better this year than in his early years.
We have no true lockdown defender, Kiapway when healthy has good wingspan, reasonable athleticism, can be our best, especially on the ball. Persons has to really work, giving him tough assignment requires we give him rest.
We're getting two freshmen and Walton who will really help on defense on perimeter.

We see Tyler differently! But, why do you think Tyler is often guarding PG late in games? My take is he is more rested and is athletic plus has a chance to get out on the break quickly, but he gets beaten horribly by quick guards on the dribble-drive and he loses defensive focus/intensity the longer he is in the game. I love the kid and offensively he has a skill set no one else on the team can match but his on-the-ball defense is not good. It COULD be but playing that way takes a certain mindset and JT isn't wired that way. He's just not.

It COULD be but playing that way takes a certain mindset and JT isn't wired that way. He's just not. That "could be, can be" is better than I would have ever expected from his after two years. I think his mindset is much better now, and he is about the only guy who really has a chance against those quick guards if they can shoot outside. Francis when healthy is our second option, and has a chance to stop most guards if he can play a step back on them, and maybe better to challenge their shot. Tyler can do more to prevent them getting the ball. Walker and Ish both need to be smarter, Ish has some potential there, after all he is a freshman, a chance he is reliable by the end of the year. Walker has not shown he can react with quick feet, so he has to learn to anticipate, get much more dialed in. Still think he's best suited as Person's back up, use his offense. He transferred to play better opposition, he is now getting that, has a learning curve.

Ok, but I see it more like oohmh...but who's to know...I think he guards the oppositions best scoring threat...so we agree to disagree...no problem, HNY
