A win is a win.. Still not playing or shooting all that well. Can we start talking about maybe we are just not a good shooting team yet?

Agree. We are not a good 3 point shooting team...heck layups are hard to come by sometimes. I am not sure if we can improve on that. The inside game was decent today until we took Moses out. Good win on road!

Good win on road! Its odd because we thought we should be at least a decent shooting team. The good thing is for the most part we have been able to overcome it. Hopefully we keep putting things together and keep improving. I really think we can play better than we have been and we are going to need too.

Might have missed it earlier. What's the word on Gunn. Looked like he was dressed on bench tonight but didn't play. Back Saturday?

I read something earlier that he could have gone tonight if really needed but he would be worked slowly back in.

Ohio does not seem to be a particularly good team and I always want to win games like these in a much more dominating fashion. But ... I'm also reminded that a few years ago — when we were not a particularly good team — we gave a few better MAC teams a fight or two. In the end, a good night with the victory but hoping for better play as we move ahead. We are definitely a decent team in a VERY bad basketball conference.

With UB better than expected down very slightly from last year. Akron, Kent, Ohio weaker but others including BSU better. Still very balanced. Ranked almost exactly the same among conferences as last year overall.

In a few words we need, concentration, aggressive defense, better shot selection. If we demonstrate we can maintain those qualities EVERY GAME (which is no easy task) we will be well on our way to a good finish this year and a much better season next. All good teams get better as the season goes on towards the spring. I do not think we have reach that point yet. That is not to say we can not obtain that goal as we get deeper into the MAC schedule.

Our shooters have performed at higher percentages particularly Kip, Sellers, and likely Persons!
Tyler shooting good percentage and Mallers overall play has outperformed.

A more even effort, with better energy and focus is what we need over the long haul if we want to compete for a championship. Can't continue to be flat and uninspired for long stretches and get away with it. This team lacks an edge and a "killer" mentality. Sometimes it looks like Persons is the only one who cares. That's gotta change to reach the next level.

Ranked almost exactly the same among conferences as last year overall. Or, put another way: Welcome to the MAC. Home of Mediocrity. Our BSU basketball from 2003 until recently has been truly mediocre, below average by D1 standards. But. By power 5 standards, the MAC overall has always been a mid major. At best the MAC was really only slightly better 8-10th best conference, but when the top conferences were smaller and had not poached many of the better mid majors. When I came to BSU 40 years ago from being around IU basketball which was then a top 10 program, when being ranked top 40 was cause for fan hysteria and gnashing of teeth. My first thought after watching MAC basketball for a couple of seasons was that in our wildest dreams we'd be middle of the pack in the B10(when it was after all 10 teams). But, c'mon, the basketball was then and is now very good. We were all spoiled when we had a run where we were "mediocre" by B10 standards, the best in the MAC. Sweet 16 an epic year is after all pretty routine for the big boys in college basketball, a disappointing year for some if that is all they do.

Can't continue to be flat and uninspired for long stretches and get away with it. This team lacks an edge and a "killer" mentality. Sometimes it looks like Persons is the only one who cares. That's gotta change to reach the next level. Trey had a few moments there where he looked like he might get it that he only has to play with more edge and he is the biggest best on the floor. He needs one more step where he says to himself that if he isn't the baddest ass on the floor, he can give no quarter and hold his own much more often than he has. By temperament Trey is not a tough guy, but after 3 years maybe he can still realize just how strong he is, and act more like it. Has to "learn" that unfortunately, but as I said we saw a little of it here and there last night. This summer he was better, getting back to that level now. Teague still lacks strength, has another year or so to get stronger, but has to harness his athletic abilities and just get used to being banged around. If he wants to play at the next level other than in mid low level Euro ball, he will have to. Mallers with less size and strength than either has much more native willingness to make contact. I still think he'll fill out. With what he has shown this year, he can be very good his last two years with just a little more beef. Hazen is already more suited to playing with bigger bodies and has more physical presence. If he continues to improve his outside shooting, and the others continue progress, we will be a team next year that can match up significantly better with a team like Buffalo up front. To me Persons suffered the most against Buffalo, he isn't used to getting the worst of physical contact and it knocked him back. But he is the guy we all see as by nature tough, I gotta think he can get the swagger back, and I actually expected more from him in this game. Right now we have to continue with gritty and tough play on the road, see where we can be by the end of the season. I'll join everyone in wanting to see UB in the other bracket, hopefully with a couple of tough games before we play them! Then we have to go to war.
