As fun as today's game was what in the world do we do now. We had 3 guys set career highs in points and a good game by Persons. All that happened and we were still in a dogfight with an Akron team that we all agreed was really down this year. We have eight scholarship players left two of which are freshman and one senior who has done nothing all year. Gunn may end up being a good player but he is lost out there right now. Ish is starting to show some promise offensively but he is lost defensively. So what can we do? Can Moses, Teague and Mallers do what they did today every game from hear on out? Persons we know is going to play his guts out but we are not as good when its the persons show. I just do not see any way to make the current situation work long term.

Can you burn a redshirt in basketball the same way you can in football? Might that be an option? I'm honestly asking because I don't know the rules on the bb side of things, nor do I have a firm grasp of what we have on the bench waiting for next year (that aren't transfers).

I love the upside of Moses and Teague and they played their hearts out today against smaller, less physical interior players. I'd love to see that same effort against the rest of the league's interior players. We need that same physical inside game to continue, but against a team that has a physical front line Moses plays soft and Teague becomes an outside player chucking five or six threes. Imagine if one of them gets hurt and is unable to play. With our depleted roster I fear tired legs. No game is going to be easy.

There was some discussion in Akron thread about how we probably have to change how we play without players we've lost.
Our real chance to do something this year was our guard play and a boost when we went to the bench. We've lost 2 of our top 7 players, both needed for scoring and quickness.
Coaches don't have many pieces to play with. There's no magic answer.

You guys are forgetting that we have all-time great, hall of fame bound freshmen on the roster, and any game now they are going to start putting up Bonzi/Theron/Steve Payne level first year production. You need to figure that into your thinking.

Congrats to the Cardinals that played hard and churned out a win. All I ask (like anyone cared about what I ask) is the Cards do exactly that...PLAY HARD and DO NOT GIVE UP. As far as what is next , I am not sure. Do we fire the staff eat the contracts and start over? Do we play the cards we have and hope for the best? As Kenny Rogers would say ,''Ya gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em''. I would say it is tough to win a hand with a king high.

As Kenny Rogers would say ,''Ya gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em''. I would say it is tough to win a hand with a king high. Agree we are now playing a much weaker hand than we hoped for to finish the year. Fire the staff? C'mon. This means we don't come close to our best case this year, and are hurt to a lesser degree next year, not that we don't still have good players with a future, and a good team next year.

I'd call Lonnie and Pete highly skilled players, would love to have them. Even if they aren't Bonzi Wells. Along with a lot of other players I'd put in our HOF. Count championships, big wins, and you'll see players like that along with other players of that skill level have produced a damned good record, matching teams where Bonzi led the way. Deserve mention in out HOF. I'll go along with the Kid and optimistically say we may have some players on the roster who we will remember along with all these better BSU players from the past.

I never said fire the staff. You can win a hand in poker with a king high. Do you want to take that chance?

We have two very good transfers and good recruits.
We do need another good interior player!
Any talk of Whit being let go is absurd?!

Glad to hear you didn't mean it! I agree with most of your post! Do you want to take a chance? I am not betting on this hand this year, I don't like the hand, but at this point in the season everybody may be all in, it's not like we can fold either. And I am sure not folding for next season. And, I do think the roster is a lot better than K high. Especially for next year where we will hold a strong hand. K-high? We're better than that? Even for the games remaining this year. This year was never our year to hold a hand which was a favorite to win the MAC, but we had some chances. Those chances are very badly hurt losing those players. But if we'd had Walker and Tyler, I think we'd have had something like AK before the flop going into the tourney. Worth a bet. But even in our wildest most optimistic situation our best chance was to have a decent draw for a winning hand as the deal continued. We were in the mix.
