Is that all the longer he was here ?? I knew it wasn't too long, but 2.5 years surprises me.
He was probably doing some career maneuvering so that he could retire in Delaware county. Just a guess. 🤔 Likely he is fielding some retirement advice from the new President.

....and only 2.5 years of those were with Sandy. No championships (football or men's basketball) w/ Bubba or Scholl either

He came to BSU in January, 2015. There are undergrads on campus that have been here longer.

How about Mike Freeman from Butler...recently made #2 at Butler, and previously at UIndy. Has a great feel for all sports and oversees basketball amongst others things. Mentored by Barry Collier.
Young and talented.

But why leave the Butler cocoon nowfor BSU? The level of support at butler is so much better than at BSU.

Yeah but I’m not wrong about the difference in levels of support.
I don't think it's simply negative to question why a rising star at Butler, who would be positioned to snag a job in a really good program if he's that hot in a couple years, would take on BSU, wihere insitutional and community support is notoriously weak. Unless he sees himself as the guy to shake things up and get BSU back to the level it should be, like back when we were winning all sports trophies. His resume does look exactly like what we need--fundrasing and inovation, and he's now in charge of the basketball program. (but not sure how much personnel experience he has) The other question is, does he see himself as Collier's replacement at some point.
I'm not saying don't pursue him. We ought to bring every resource to bear to go after him. But, be honest in gauging how attracitve BSU is right now. I just don't know. I want someone willing to come in a kick some asses around in the dept, not keep status quo.

Young and talented. He is a sales, marketing and fundraising guy, he is the #2 at Butler because Collier wants a buffer and point man to mess with that stuff. This probably isn't the guy you want hiring coaches, negotiating contracts, and leading a systemic strategy. This is Butler's sports sales guy with a big title, every college has one, but you don't want him as an AD. This is the guy you put in the premium hospitality room to shake hands.

I want someone willing to come in a kick some asses around in the dept, not keep status quo. I don't disagree with you. But like I argued with PJ Fleck when people said he wouldn't be willing to take a job that they personally didn't find desirable, the guy has to be extremely confident. I don't want a guy who is waiting for the perfect opportunity. I want a guy who will grab the job by the horns and make it into the perfect opportunity through sheer force of will. PJ is a total clown, but what he did at WMU is inspirational. I hope we get a PJ-type without the clown show. As I was writing this, I remembered that when Whitford took this job he said he had passed on numerous other jobs but thought this was an ideal opportunity for a young coach. I took it as a compliment at the time but now I'm feeling that the argument I'm making today is supported by his passivity. In year five he's still happy when we show effort. He waited for the easy road, and he's still taking the easy road.

Unlike Halftime I bet the guy has learned from Collier and he is young and talented. We are going to give up a little on experience to get an up and comer!
Now why would a young guy leave Butler for BSU?
I’d say for likely a bit more money than he’s getting at Butler, as resume builder at a D-1 school and all major sports at D 1 level

The BSU experience didn’t seem to slow down Bubba or Bill. Coming from ND, some would ask, why go to BSU. So I agree, we could be an attractive stop. I want someone aggressive who is looking to be a bigger player eventually. Just makes us look even better to the next one.

Those are things you argue against.

If we are staying in D-1 football it would be great if we could find an AD with a strong football and basketball backround.

There isn't a school in this conference that wouldn't be better off dumping football. It's going to happen and you will be in a far better position if you are the first to make the move. All of which means BSU will sit on the sidelines, pretend like they are being thoughtful, and eventually wind-up in an even worse conference.
