As usual, when we make our early exit I turn my attention to overall championships. Despite losing 18 straight years, we still have the most conference championships at 7.
Ohio and Kent are tied at 6. Miami and Eastern are at 4. Akron's alone at 3. Buffalo, CMU, EMU all at 2. Toledo and NIU are at 1. Poor BGSU at 0.
So in order I'll be rooting for 1) Toledo, 2) Buffalo & EMU, 3) Miami & EMU.
Let's hope Kent doesn't put us out in the same year they catch us.

If they play Akron for the title I would say it happens so Buffalo better beat them tomorrow.

We want Buffalo to win because they are the best MAC team.
The last thing we need is another low seed representing the MAC in the tourney and have to listen to the talking heads claiming the MAC is a weak conference because are lower seed team got shalacked. This has happened too many times in the past.

I agree, but won't they be very likely one and done?

I agree, but won't they be very likely one and done? If there is a team that has a chance to NOT be one and done, it's Buffalo. They're really well balanced.

I agree, but won't they be very likely one and done? As always it will depend on the draw and matchups.

After multiple claims about how down the MAC was this year I decided to investigate that claim myself by digging into the NCAA RPI Archive and seeing how the league has done this year relative to the rest of college basketball. What I found suggests that if the MAC is indeed down, so is the rest of college basketball. The RPI changed in 2005, so years listed prior to that aren't really relative in this discussion. I wish they were. 1990-2005 were outstanding seasons for the conference and it would be very relevant to compare now to then. Since the new RPI came out in 2005, 2018 ranks as the 4th best season for the MAC. According to Jerry Palm, the highest RPI ranked teams left out of the NCAA Tournament since the new RPI was introduced are #21 Missouri State (2006), #29 Colrado State (2015), #30 Hofstra (2006), and #30 Air Force (2007) Currently the MAC stands as the 10th ranked conference out of 32. Buffalo's RPI rank of #30, should it stand makes them the second highest ranked MAC team since the RPI changed in 2005. Should they lose tonight to Toledo, who has an RPI rank of #73, their ranking will drop only a very small amount. Buffalo's #31 ranking in 2015 resulted in a 12 seed. Kent State's #24 ranking in 2008 resulted in a 9 seed. Additionally the MAC West this year posted it's best average RPI since the RPI changed in 2005. Also for the first time in that time period the MAC West passed the MAC East. Both division's rankings were better than 2017 and both exceeded .5000 for only the third time since 2005.

Interesting post UniversityJim. I have to have this argument with my ACC buddies consistently, defending the MAC. I live in the Raleigh Durham area (Wake Forest) and have to hear ACC crap consistently. As a client of mine in Texas said to me a couple of weeks ago, the ACC stands for Arrogant Conceited Cheaters.
Of course my role as Southeast Recruiting Manager for Ball U forces me to put in this effort:)
I believe in 2010 Ohio took UNC to double OT in the loss in the second round. Weren't they the 4th or 5th seed in the MAC? I have to remind my buddies in powder blue that consistently.
Back in the day we would get 2 to 3 teams in. What happened, besides money and more money influences?

Does anyone remember what year the MAC doubled down on their stupidity and forced member institutions to make a substantially larger "investment" in football ? I am thinking it was around 2004.

There are many other tangible benefits of school bowl participation. Every school that participates reports that the national showcase and buildup is very helpful with recruiting efforts for their program. High school players can attend the game itself if the expenses are low enough. There is a NBER paper by Michael Anderson that found that a winning football program enhances the number of overall applications a university receives, in-state enrollment, SAT scores and raises a school’s overall academic performance. Schools participating in Bowl Games report greatly increased alumni giving to the football program and the athletic department. In most schools football revenue supports the less generating revenue sports, providing opportunities for many athletes. This paper also illustrates that alumni giving to non-athletic aspects of the universities increases. The experience can greatly enhance the prestige of the university. College football consistently polls as the nation’s second most popular team sport.
Found this in an article, I will let you guys fight it out as this argument is boring and football is not going anywhere soon

The key word is success, you could easily make an argument no MAC football team has ever been successful on a national level.

It could be argued that the MAC has been able to play in the New years 6 bowls and the former bcs bowls several times. Which would be about the equivalent of a Mac basketball team getting to the elite 8(onetime). So the argument could be made that the MAC football has actually been more successful on a national level than basketball has
