Did I just stumble into the "unpopular opinions" subreddit?

Fair enough and I think you hit on something important. Most all of us grew up with a different era of basketball. Most of us still want the dominant big man but maybe that is just not a thing anymore. I really dislike the way the game is played today but its the current trend of Basketball. Yeah but WE aren't playing small ball ( #281 in 3pt attempts per game), that's all just bullshit coming from Whitford. We are just playing a traditional motion offense and our usual stand around and watch defense.

If this thread was a troll at work, it generated greater response than I expected.
If a serious protest against harsh words directed at players and coaches it was off key.
As much as I tend to agree with that.

That is maybe as dead as disciplined motion offense. It all started when they widened the lane from its original keyhole shape to stop George Mikan. Then the 3 point line and shot clock came to college basketball. Then AAU basketball... Everybody is a guard now.

If the Ball State athletics department will provide the harem and pay to raise the children I will create some basketball studs and sire us a complete football team too.

I was looking through stats this morning and a few things jumped off the page. In 130 minutes of play small forward Zach Gunn doesn't have a single assist this season. BSU ranks 282nd in turnovers per game and 292 in opponent offensive rebounds per game. Our opponents are simply getting more shots per game where we rank 326.

BSU ranks 282nd in turnovers per game and 292 in off rebounds given-up per game. Our opponents are simply getting more shots per game where we rank 326. And that is a major issue over the long haul. We aren’t maximizing possessions and we are not protecting the offensive boards.

When your FG percentage is high you may tend to get less shots!

With their budget, what quality of harem do you think you're getting? That's a good point. But I want to be able to criticize weak athletic performances, so I'll do my part with whatever harem can be provided.

We have a player named "Gunn" who has zero assists in 130 minutes of play? Alright! I think we've just found the most interesting thing to follow this season.

When your FG percentage is high you may tend to get less shots! We rank 280th in effective possession ratio, and 302nd in opponent effective possession ratio. So there is a real issue with our combination of offensive turnovers, lack of forcing turnovers, and poor rebounding. Also we are only getting 27% of our scoring from three pointers which ranks 276th ( that is actually a small improvement over the last two seasons), so you guys who think Whitford can run an offense without bigs are delusional.

When your FG percentage is high you may tend to get less shots! That Doesn’t matter if your opponents are taking and hitting a lot more shots than you. ((Unless we’re taking and hitting a ton of 3’s among our smaller number of shots, which we are not)

If you are going to give up more shots, you better hold the opponent to a lower FG% and have some excuse for giving up offensive rebounds. There is maybe some excuse for giving up more shots if you are getting a ton of FTs.
Turnovers and failure to block out are the ugly part of the kind of pickup basketball we see so much. Maybe it's AAU basketball? But. If extra shots come from turnovers and run and gun basketball, there is still not much excuse unless you are winning the turnover battle and playing at a torrid pace. And. Somehow holding them to a lower FG% is still necessary.
