Beginning to wonder if we’ll see Hazen again this season. Whitford saying things like “won’t be back anytime soon”, “could be a month, two months.”
Back injuries can’t be taken lightly. Maybe an appeal for a medical redshirt is coming. Not sure where he is in terms of games played vs. the cut off for medical redshirting.

BIG LOSS! He has proven to be a valuable player, both rebounding and scoring - I was surprised how good a three point shooter he was. Wish him the best. Hopefully if he is unable to play he can get a medical red shirt.

So I don't think he can redshirt.

If he’s not back it certainly limits our depth!
Has anyone heard what the back issue is specifically?

I think the NCAA only gives you five years to play four. So I don't think he can redshirt. You can get 6 years with a medical. Yeah, but it's not an automatic even if he takes a medical redshirt. You have to apply and be granted a sixth season and typically they don't grant those if you burned a year as a voluntary transfer. I have seen a sixth year granted but only in the case of two incapacitating injuries.

Did Jeremoah davis get a 6th year? Also I think Hazens back issues may date back to high school.. Could just be one of those things that is never really all the way right. I did something to my back and was hobbled for two years.. Only thing they could suggest was surgery(nope) too young.. Pills(nope) not going to start that.. Eventually it has somehow became pretty much gone. I pray it stays away, point is had I been trying to play basketball everyday Id likely still be gimpy.

I think Jeremiah Davis had about 14 or 15 years of eligibility

So, we are down to a roster of 8 scholarship players and a walk-on and it's not even the start of conference play! Death, taxes, and Whitford roster mis-management, the 3 things you can count on in life. But we do have 1 transfer red-shirt (Miryne Thomas), 2 other red-shirts (Acree and Coleman), 1 injured player (Hazen), and 1 non-usable player (Huggins). Welcome to Whitford year six.

But we do have 1 transfer red-shirt (Miryne Thomas), 2 other red-shirts (Acree and Coleman), 1 injured player (Hazen), and 1 non-usable player (Huggins). Welcome to Whitford year six. Even if Nehls was contributing which he has not been, the loss of depth up front takes away a substantial team strength.
The comparison to last year is that the walk on is a good one and with KJ that gives us better depth than we had last year at guard after losing a good guard about this time. We were down to Persons, Josh and JT. The nail in the coffin last year was losing JT a good athlete who although we knew was undependable offered chances for elevating us in any give game by playing well. That is where losing Hazen hurts now at forward.
I really hate losing Hazen and it lowers my expectations.
We're still probably just a hair better up front than we were last year at this time, but losing him is a big deal. He represented one of the biggest chances to improve over the conference season.
Without Hazen our upside in terms of improving over the conference seasonis to see Ish improve, Gunn continue to play well and improve on defense, find a way to use Nehls, or Huggins be able to contribute a little if needed. Whether Huggins is "unusable" now or just not as usable as Gunn and going small when Trey is out, in any case he isn't giving us anything except in practice. With Hazen we had a substantial chance for excellent front line bench play after he recovered. Let's hope he is ready to give us a lift at the end of the season.

I believe that in the star press, the coach said this injury will hurt our depth. But if you lose one player, do you really go from a deep team, to a team without depth? (Unless of course that player is a star.)

well it forces you to use Gunn more which is a double sided sword.. If he gets hot his threes can help.. Problem is for every three he makes he gives up 2 cause he can not play a lick of D
