But would the MAC want them? About a decade ago the rumor was Western Kentucky was interested (good basketball, a wide fanbase, at least by conference standards). The geniuses elected for a few years of Temple in football and other non-revenue sports. UMass was another big-media market debacle. Temple’s MAC agreement was football only.

I edited the original post. If not non-revenue competition, didn't league schools have some kind of scheduling agreement with them, getting a few games with their more marquee programs? I seem to recall a home-and-home with Temple around that time.

No non-revenue sports involved. I love it when people refer to MAC football as a "revenue" sport.

Western Kentucky's academic standards for athletes were not in line with the MAC and they were not willing to raise them.

I love it when people refer to MAC football as a "revenue" sport. Are we making money on basketball? No? Didn’t think so. And so I have enough common sense never to refer to MAC basketball as a "revenue" sport. That would be idiotic….not so idiotic as referring to football that way of course, but still idiotic. Are you able to comprehend this? And, by the way, I've been saying for several years now that it has become evident the BSU administration doesn't have anywhere near enough savvy to make basketball into a worthwhile proposition for the school and therefore the plug should be pulled. It's probably just possible, with a series of clear goals and intelligent decisions, to make basketball worth the expenditure, but the administration has proven quite conclusively over a lengthy period that they aren't capable of that. So, you see, there is really no point in you sputtering " but, but but...basketball!" anytime I point out the extreme financial stupidity of MAC football, other than the points that you have no substantive argument to make, that you argue in bad faith, and that you're not particularly bright.

As the fine general alludes to, we COULD conceivably make money in basketball, though. We have absolutely no chance of even beginning to approach breakeven in football.

PAC12 is proposing selling 10% of the conference to private investors for $500M
This means they realize that their current model is unsustainable

PAC12 is proposing selling 10% of the conference to private investors for $500M This means they realize that their current model is unsustainable "Lackluster football teams may not be the conference’s only financial problem. The Oregonian reported earlier this year that Scott’s $4.8 million salary is twice as much as his counterparts in the far richer SEC and Big Ten, and the Pac-10 is spending $7 million a year on rent for an office in San Francisco, where it moved in 2011 from nearby Walnut Creek, where office space is significantly cheaper. They are way overpaying a terrible commissioner and have far too lavish office spending.

Sure doesn't look like "private equity" to me, it reeks a lot more of a Corporate Go Fund Me Scheme.

That would be idiotic….not so idiotic as referring to football that way of course, but still idiotic. Are you able to comprehend this? Comprehend this. Football and basketball charge admission. They are revenue generating sports. Whether they are successful is a very different thing. Those sports that do not charge admission are non-revenue sports. Hope that clears up your inability to understand how sports are categorized. Pretty simple guideline, your brilliance.
