Some involve externalities and social justice where government has a role. Seems to me if the governemnt is involved that should just read "justice", not "social justice". It's a little too deep a subject for this forum, but how do you define justice?
Using the term "social justice" does give weight to whether government has a role, how much of one, both in guaranteeing individual freedom and constraints on freedom in some respects. That is, are we as social creatures or ought we be constrained in that desire for freedom by the idea of protecting society and preserving in society equality of opportunity for others to act freely. It's all a matter of degree of freedom versus degree of constraint in a social context.
How much constraint determines the ideal level of government action. Externalities present a little different problem where government has a role in constraint of economic activity.

My sweep response: The chicken you dipshit.
My 00 response: noncommittal blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
My ballman response: [see next post]
My kid response: I predicted the egg and I was right.
My sherman response: It's really incredible how slow-witted people are, how their perceptions are dictated by irrelevant things, how eagerly they adopt the media-provided opinions, and how they overlook facts right in front of their face. Herd-following types are naturally going to be impressed by Farm and Ranch Living headlines and viral videos and general hype. COCKADOODLEDOOOOOOOO!
My cardfan response:
My calhoun response: oh shit what did i do? lets drink alcohol.
My bsu0 response: which part of the chicken is used to make weenies?
The rest of you, congrats on being too hard to caricature.

of protecting society and preserving in society equality of opportunity That's called justice, "social justice" tries to dictate equality of result often by sidestepping or reallocating merit and achievement. That's an interpretation. There is maybe in the worst case that possible problem, but no need to make the term a perjorative with that more extreme interpretation.

I’ll good-naturedly add Ifbj00’s response: I know the chicken’s dad and you don’t know jack shit about chickens and eggs!

Hey, I read the article while the rest of y'uns were debating this mother-and-child reunion BS. I'm sure a lot of you will find the following interesting: (emphasis mine) "Ball State (9-4). Net: 82 Outlook: While the record pales behind Buffalo, Toledo and Kent, MAC insiders believe this may actually be the most dangerous team in the league. They have excellent size, depth and overall firepower led by senior guard Tayler Persons (16.8 ppg). No team in the league comes close to being this complete. Don’t be surprised if this team is the one to beat down the stretch." Huh? I think Elton Alexander normally does a good job covering the MAC for the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, but this makes me think he hasn't been reading box scores, the injury report, or he's just dropped a reverse-suplex jinx on us.

I've always thought the chicken-and-egg thing was a poor choice as an example of an unsolvable quandary. The egg came first. It had to.
Assuming you believe in evolution, chickens evolved through some sequence of non-chicken ancestors (including, I believe, dinosaurs). This means that at some point, some creature that was not-quite-a-chicken, through genetic mutation or variation, laid an egg that contained a chicken. For whatever reason, this first chicken was an improvement in evolutionary fitness and its ancestors succeeded the not-quite-a-chicken species. So the egg proceeded the chicken, and the not-quite-a-chicken mother proceeded the egg. The egg came before the chicken. No quandary.
