A big "Prove Yourself" stretch in the schedule starts tomorrow. BSU plays IU @ B'town. Over the weekend, BSU plays three in Oxford against a hot Miami team. Next Tuesday, BSU plays IU @ Victory Field. Some numbers:
| Record | BA | BA Against | ERA | ERA Against | IU | 24-12 | .259 | .221 | 3.36 | 6.07 | Miami | 29-6 | .315 | .234 | 3.62 | 7.09 |
|
|
|
|
|
| Ball State | 23-12 | .290 | .253 | 4.64 | 6.29 |
While IU's batting average is low, they score with men on. They pitch well. Miami is outright good across the board. Getting 3 of 5 would be huge. I think we are up to it. No mistakes can be afforded.

Thanks again cardfan12 I agree MAC is not playing divisions in baseball now.

This is a tough stretch, no doubt. The hitting has been pretty surprising, though we still strand a fair number. The stud pitchers need to up their game some for us to be elite. Beating IU at all is possible, but a tall order. We need to take 2 of 3 at Miami.

Wright State & Kent both beat IU so it is doable.

FML! Not even two outs in the 1st and we've given up 4 runs on a single, BB, triple, wild pitch and home run.

We throw an afterthought and IU puts one of their regulars against us.
We don’t normally try and win one of these midweek games during the conference season, but it would be nice to have a good showing against an IU when you have the horses to do it 😤

Gotta go get Miami and then hopefully save some innings for IU at Victory Field next week.

Our baseball program is reminding me more and more of the “slow atrophy” our men’s volleyball program has been demonstrating for a number of years now.
Perennial “also ran” and “pretender contender”!
Would love to hear why I might be wrong?

Today's game stopped in 6th inning still scoreless. We have no hits & Miami has one. We have a runner on 3rd with 2 out & 1 & 2 count on the batter. It will restart there tomorrow before 2nd game of what will now be double header per Miami website.

Would love to hear why I might be wrong? Let’s just take the last 7 years (including ‘19) where our MAC record against similar opponents and recruiting potential......is 104 wins and 56 losses. I’d say that’s pretty good considering the resources we give it and, until a couple of years ago, the facility that we presented to potential recruits.

I think Mens VB would be similar scenario but haven’t checked. Just seems like we feast on lesser quality opponents and falter against the better opponents typically. I do believe until recently our facilities were a serious impediment but feel we are in a much better situation facility wise. So hopefully we will start seeing some MAC Championships down the road near term.

Funny that you are so supportive of football, a sport that has completely died on the vine (with more relative resources, mind you), but rip baseball (and volleyball), one of our few sports actually worth following. You need to go look at the facts - we regularly beat opponents we shouldn't in baseball. Keep in mind IU is a national player and their budget is literally multiples of ours. Our budget is still in the bottom half of the MAC in baseball, and our facility, while much nicer, was dramatically scaled back when construction started. As for Men's Volleyball, what do you expect? We aren't even in the same league as our "peers" in the MIVA, let alone east and west coast schools, when it comes to resources and support. Joel is patching together a competitor against the odds, as is Rich. Ball State is more committed to football, relatively speaking, than any other sport, and it is a complete waste of resources.

Too bad the two kids on the mound didn't get the chance to see that one through.

Held on through a rocky 9th to get a very big 3-2 win to start the series at Miami.
