If BSU loses 2 MAC series consecutively I would almost bet he will chime in on Maloney. Glad to see you guys miss me. Just got tired of about three of you hanging on Maloneys nuts no matter what happens. I said it before, he's a better then mediocre coach, but you 3 think what he did 10 - 15 years ago matters. Ball States rankings and strength of schedule are...... Rankings Rank Value RPI 120 0.5142 Non-Conf RPI 159 SOS 194 Non-Conf SOS 226 vs. RPI Teams RPI 1-25 0-1 26-50 1-4 51-100 0-2 101-200 8-5 201+ 15-3 If you didn't see it, SOS is..226. I do believe they have a chance to get in the NCAA Tourney this year. Baker, Jamieson and pray for rain, then yes they might get in because the MAC is trash this year. FYI... his contract is up in June. Rumor from the scouts I talk to is, he is going to Notre Dame next year. I dont even watch Baseball so I have no clue if any of this is true or false. I do know whenever I would come in here to read anything I normally saw you bitching and moaning. Bitching and Moaning is fine but anyone could see that your bitching is agenda driven and you have a personal problem with Maloney.

They haven't lost 2 MAC series, but here I am. I still think BSU could do better or just as good with a cheaper coach. He is not worth the money he's being paid. The stats are straight off the D1 baseball site.

I dont know how close you follow other BSU Sports but Maloney currently has his team at or near the top of the MAC standings. Football and Basketball have been a dumpster fire while Baseball has at least been winning some games. I do not know if Maloney is worth the money we pay or not but most people I have talked too seem to think he is one of the better coaches at Ball State.

I agree that the baseball team is much better then football and basketball. But I am comparing him to the other teams in the MAC. Are they always a top 2 or 3 seed? Yes. But they haven't lasted very long for the last 3 years in the tourney. For a coach to be compensated as much as he is, the team should get in the NCAA's at least once since 2013.

How much does he make ? Our teams have had some Injuries that have been part of the short lived tournament equation. When you lose your best pitcher it's bound to have an impact on your success. I remember, too, the screwy MAC rule of a couple years ago where we won the winners bracket and then got beat by the losers bracket winner, but there was no second game against whomever it was that we were playing. About the dumbest set-up I've ever seen, but it happened.

Maloney makes about 207k, not including benefits and bonuses.
That's a lot for a MAC baseball coach.
His contract is up in June, I believe. Did he get an extension?

Scholl was a big baseball guy (he was over baseball at Notre Dame), and he targeted Maloney. From my recollection of context, Maloney had several suitors at the time, so Scholl had to pay him. Ironically, Marquette doesn't even have baseball. Anytime BSU does a relatively big salary (more on the administrative side, but occasionally in athletics), you can bet they won't fund anything else around that person. Our budget is literally half of Miami, Kent, Toledo, WMU, CMU, so you can guess what Maloney spends a great deal more of his time doing than he should have to (out of necessity).

Brady Hoke left largely because of the Bsu way. They were willing to pay him but not his assistants, and he wasn’t given a whole lot of other resources either.

I agree this is the critical problem with a tight budget, and while Sherman and others say you don't need to pay coaches, just hire smarter, you actually have to do both, and also give them staff, otherwise very hard to get to the top. And stay there.
