Question: Wasn’t there some type of indoor facility behind the old men”s gym back in the day? Hate to say it, but I think it was a Quonset Hut design. Asking for an elderly friend ...... Wasn't that the Field and Sports Building? Yes. Collapsed in a snow storm around 1981. People were inside it. Luckily, no one was hurt.

I thought when I toured old men’s gym/rec center that I looked into an area that was being used as a practice area for football, etc. I thought this was the old field sports building. I can can see where this may help football recruiting. IMO, the other improvements mentioned have been filled with the recent additions to the stadium buildings on the south side of the football field. I have a friend who feels we need to put concrete stands on the east side of the stadium, student section. It is my opinion that we need to field a better product/football team, market, and build attendance. We had better than 6,000 sridents on a regular basis when we had good teams with our 12-0 team and Winning’s team. However, there needs to be a nice restroom facility on the student side of the stadium - that’s currently a sad situation.

I was talking to Tilmon Clark at practice a few years ago and he said practice facilities were a giant waste of mpney in terms of usage. They were a must have in terms of recruiting though. Of course you have to say we neeed this because of weather/recruiting and every other reason you can think of in order to sell it
In the big picture, it's probably a good thing that the donors for this project were gently separated from their money. Anyone that feeble-minded is potentially capable of doing God-knows-what with a large sum of money. It's better for society that their money gets siphoned off into something that, while a total waste, is not actually harmful or dangerous. If you can be persuaded that MAC football recruiting is a good use for your money, what crack-pot political causes could potentially get into your head?

That area was part of the renovation to the “men’s gym” and seems like it is in a similar location to the old sports building. It is fairly small and I assume frisbee throwers and intramural jocks have rights to it over the athletic teams. It did seem like the rock climbing wall was underutilized when I went through.

The original Field & Sports Building was, in fact, a large quonset barn, possibly a surplus aircraft hanger from WWII. The floor was dirt, and when you got enough track & field and baseball players moving around, everyone was susceptable to black lung. It collapsed under the weight of a heavy snow in the winter of 1981. Teams had just cleared out from practices, but regular students were in there jogging. The current Field & Sports Building was built on its footprint and completed in 1984. What you were touring was the JAG Rec Center, completed in 2010, a couple of renovations after the current Field and Sports Building.

Sherm this is your worst nightmare.. It takes all the air out of the dropping down a level or three Nothing has changed. It was never likely to happen, and the yearly money loss hasn't changed a bit. It's still stupid and it's still going to last for the foreseeable future.

The Ncaa will at some point decide the smaller conferences are not needed. Its only a matter of time the higher up in the MAC have decided they want to fight it out till the bitter end

It will burst if/when the Dems figure out how to enact free tuition for public schools. When the schools suddenly can't rely on millions of dollars in student funds to support athletics the house of cards will all come tumbling down.

student fees are usually not considered tuition.
In unlikely event we went toward free, probably would not go all the way

Anyone who thinks the demise of the G5 leagues is on the horizon better rethink that notion.
Not going to happen anytime soon if ever.
Way to many structural changes would have to take place within the NCAA for this to ever happen plus I think the P5 leagues like it just the way it is and to a very strong degree need the G5 teams on their schedules.
All the hype about the demise of the MAC, Mountain West, AAC etc. is just that - “hype”..
Not to say there won’t be changes and conference affiliation moves but heck that is nothing new!
