I've now seen 3 BSU games this season as well as a bunch of games from the "Power 5". My question is are the officials working under 2 sets of rules? It seems as if the Power 5-Junior NBA games have not changed as far as body contact, muggings & the usual mayhem that is allowed compared to the ticky-tacky stuff being called at the lower mid-major level-or am I just being delusional? Good call. Much better than the zebras in Worthen.

Whatever Valpo's legitimate ranking might be, they are still one of the stronger teams on our schedule, and this was a really nice win for the Cards. Made me very happy.
History would say that the Cards would follow a game like this with a bit of a turd against IUPUI. That CANNOT happen if there's any hope of creating some momentum for this team and some excitement among the fan base (particularly the students).

I'm beyond thrilled. Hell I don't care if Valpo had to travel from Mars this morning. We beat a legitimate team. Let's enjoy it and then hope our guys can build on this and sustain it! Amen.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a letdown next game. This is always a possibility. If so, hope its short lived. Let's hope they settle down and get back to the business of fixing issues that need attention.

By the way, that may have been Davis's best game overall....he penetrated and had like 6 assists...we also out rebounded a much taller team!! OK, I'll be the hater here. I heard a similar comment about Davis on the radio afterward and thought it was bunk then. Well, maybe not total bunk because it might have been Davis' best game overall this year, but I still thought he almost cost us the game late with some horrendous decisions, one on a pass and the other on a shot very early in the shot clock. He also orchestrated our offense late in the first half when we couldn't seem to get a decent shot within 30 seconds. I hope he continues to improve because he might be our best PG, but that thought still scares me. Please prove me wrong Jeremiah.

Did I just wake up in the 1990's driving a DeLorean?

I have seen Valpo 2 times before the Cards and they looked good and talented. But I have seen the Cards play 4 games and they are improved and have resembled the Cards we hoped they would. Naysayers will be there but optimistic fans are feeling good about the improvement by beating a solid Valpo team. If they can continue to improve a lot of you naysayer will jump on board. The Kid is on to something?

One impressive stat is the free throws that the Cards make at the end of games. I believe the % was 81. That itself will win a game or two for you.

Cardinals move to #159 thru afternoon games played. 4 clearly above us in MAC. 4 teams very close to us. 4 teams below. Very good for us to win a close game at home against a team favored to beat us. We will have more nail biters. Good effort in this game and good defense, a key in all those close games to come.

Among the things that were to like in today's game, one that stuck out to me — and was referenced by Whitford in his post-game press conference — was that even when it got tight late we really pushed the ball up the court and were aggressive offensively.
In some ways that's a necessity with a 30-second shot clock, but I thought it also showed a mentality that the Card were going to make plays to try to win, not just try to hold on.
In that respect I guess I have to back off on my criticism of Davis somewhat. Love the aggressiveness; hoping for better decisions in the future.

Just watched the game after travelling all day (thank you, ESPN3). Wow... fantastic. Haven't had a reason to be excited about a game in so long, I forgot what it felt like. Lots to be encouraged by and build upon. Now to keep it up...
